Overview
The successful candidate will be part of the KBR team supporting the Test Resource Management Center’s (TRMC) Big Data and Knowledge Management Team working on Big Data systems supporting DoD Test Ranges and various acquisition programs. We are seeking a highly experienced DoD Technical Writer with a strong understanding of DoD processes and documentation standards to join our dynamic distributed team. As a Technical Writer on our team, you will be instrumental in creating, editing and maintaining a wide range of technical documentation. Your ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise and user-friendly content will be crucial to the success of our mission. This role requires proven experience writing for DoD audiences and familiarity with DoD documentation standards. Only US citizens with active DoD Secret clearances and 5+ years of technical writing experience within a DoD environment will be considered. The successful candidate will have technical writing experience within the DoD community and should be prepared to provide writing & graphic layout samples alongside their resume. Key Responsibilities
- Technical Documentation : Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including how-to guides, presentations, system administration guides, installation guides, end user training materials, API documentation, wiki pages and technical reports. Manage document version control and configuration.
- DoD Standards : Adhere to DoD documentation standards, style guides and templates. Review and edit documentation created by technical staff. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Collaboration : Collaborate with software engineers, system architects, system administrators, data scientists, data engineers, data analysts, trainers and program managers to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation. Work with graphics designers to create and enhance graphics for documentation. Experience working with highly technical teams of engineers and scientists.
- Process Improvement : Proactively identify areas for documentation improvement and implement changes, including design, development, enhancement and rewriting of existing documentation and / or wiki pages to improve quality. Support the public release process for documentation. Demonstrated initiative in improving documentation quality.
- Communication Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to effectively communicate with customers and teammates. Experience in a remote / distributed team environment.
- Tools : Proficiency with documentation tools and wiki tools such as Confluence.
- Presentation Skills : Confident presentation skills for large technical and non-technical groups. Assist training staff in developing technical presentations and training sessions for diverse audiences.
Qualifications
Required :
Security Clearance : Active DoD Secret Security Clearance required.Education : Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.Experience : 5+ years of technical writing experience within the DoD environment.Desired :
Experience : 15+ years of technical writing experience with 5+ in DoD. DoD Test and Evaluation experience. Experience writing for a software-intensive product team.Big Data Experience : Knowledge of Big Data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka).Software Experience : Documenting complex software systems, including big data platforms, cloud-based architecture, and data analytics tools. Location : This position is mostly remote, but the individual must reside near a military installation.Travel : 25% travel required, with potential surge to 50% to support end users located at DoD ranges and labs across the US (including Alaska and Hawaii).Working Hours : StandardCompensation
