The Food Runner is responsible for delivering food orders quickly and accurately from the kitchen to the guests, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable dining experience. This role requires a high level of efficiency, attention to detail, and a passion for hospitality. The Food Runner works closely with the kitchen and service staff to maintain the flow of service, uphold the restaurant’s standards, and contribute to a memorable guest experience. Experience working in World's 50 Best, Bib Gourmands, or Michelin-starred establishments is strongly preferred.
Essential Functions :
- Obtain service area assignment at the start of each shift and maintain awareness of table statuses and order progression.
- Efficiently deliver food orders from the kitchen to guests, ensuring all orders are complete, accurate, and visually appealing.
- Describe dishes accurately to guests when presenting food, highlighting ingredients and preparation methods if asked.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the expo line, kitchen pass, and service areas.
- Remove used tableware between courses, and replace utensils as necessary.
- Ensure all orders are delivered in a timely manner by coordinating with kitchen staff and servers.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen and serving staff to resolve any order issues swiftly.
- Monitor and maintain a clean and organized service area, including clearing plates, glasses, and silverware as needed.
- Refill water glasses, assist servers with drink orders, and respond promptly to guest requests when necessary.
- Assist with side work such as restocking and polishing silverware, rolling napkins, and resetting tables.
- Act as a bridge between the kitchen and servers to ensure seamless communication and service flow.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards, including proper handling of dishes and cutlery.
- Assist in managing and expediting orders during peak service times to prevent bottlenecks.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant.
Qualifications :
Previous experience as a Food Runner, Busser, or similar entry-level restaurant position preferred but not required.Basic understanding of menu items and ability to describe dishes to guests effectively.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Excellent communication skills and a friendly, energetic demeanour.Ability to work as part of a team and support fellow staff members as needed.Physical Requirements :
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours).Ability to lift and carry trays weighing up to 30 pounds.Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching.Ability to safely navigate a busy kitchen and dining area.
