Position : Director of Human Resources
Location : Birmingham, AL
Compensation : $150,000 – $175,000 (base salary) + performance-based bonus

About the Opportunity
A growing heavy civil construction company is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to lead and strengthen all aspects of its people operations. This is a key leadership position responsible for driving HR strategy, managing benefits and compliance, and supporting a workforce that spans both office and field operations.
The ideal candidate combines strategic insight with hands-on capability — comfortable working alongside executives while also managing day-to-day HR functions. This is a unique opportunity to build, refine, and elevate HR systems and culture within a respected, self-performing contractor.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HR policies and programs that align with company goals and support long-term growth.
- Manage BambooHR (or similar HRIS) for recruiting, onboarding, employee data, and reporting.
- Oversee 401(k), health, dental, vision, and disability benefits in partnership with external vendors.
- Advise leadership on workforce planning, employee engagement, and retention strategies.
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Support managers and supervisors with employee relations, performance, and policy training.
- Direct all recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding processes for both salaried and hourly personnel.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; HR certifications (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience — construction industry or adjacent field experience strongly preferred.Proficiency with BambooHR or similar HRIS platforms.Strong understanding of benefits and 401(k) plan administration.Proven ability to manage compliance, employee relations, and workforce development across diverse teams.Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with a practical, results-driven mindset.What’s Offered
