Healthyhorns is the umbrella brand encompassing University Health Services, Counseling and Mental Health Center and Longhorn Wellness Center. Together, the departments work to enhance the health and well-being of students’ bodies, minds and lives in support of their academic and personal goals.

Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an accredited on-campus mental health facility dedicated to supporting the well-being of UT Austin students. CMHC offers a range of services, including assessment and referral, group and individual counseling, psychiatry and well-being services.

University Health Services (UHS) is an accredited on-campus medical facility dedicated to addressing the various healthcare needs of UT Austin students. UHS provides comprehensive services, including general medical care, public health education and specialty clinics.


The Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) is the health promotion unit servicing University Health Services and Counseling and Mental Health Center. Staff focuses on educating students about priority college health issues by hosting workshops and events, creating new tools, and collaborating with the campus community to enhance overall well-being.

Purpose

The Counseling and Mental Health Center’s (CMHC) administrative team plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of mental health providers who serve students at the University of Texas at Austin. The ideal candidate will lead this team by driving operational efficiency, supporting counseling staff and students, and fostering a culture of professionalism and care. Success in this role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to streamline processes, safeguard confidentiality, and align administrative functions with the center’s mission. Responsibilities

  • Executive Support: Manage calendars, correspondence, files, reports, and special projects for the Assistant VP; coordinate conference travel and task force preparations.

  • Staff Supervision: Lead and mentor administrative support staff; oversee daily operations, assign priorities, manage schedules, conduct performance reviews, and support hiring and training.

  • Operations Management: Oversee purchasing, budgets, memberships, parking, and office procedures; serve as emergency preparedness floor manager; coordinate hours of operation and event logistics.

  • Committee & Leadership Support: Provide administrative support for leadership committees, accreditation processes, peer reviews, and staff development initiatives; prepare agendas, minutes, and records.

  • Office & Space Management: Ensure efficient front-office operations, visitor support, and workspace organization; maintain resources and procedures that enhance efficiency.

  • Additional Duties: Assist with confidential requests, records release, special projects, and represent CMHC administration as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or related field.

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex calendars, correspondence, confidential files, and executive-level projects.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualification

  • Master’s degree in business administration, management, or related field.

  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or counseling center settings.

  • Proven success in staff supervision, performance management, and team development.

  • Knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, and resource management.

  • Experience coordinating events, trainings, and operational logistics.

  • Experience with Electronic Health Records

  • Experience with *DEFINE

Salary Range

$70,000 + depending on qualifications

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
