Precast Concrete Structural Engineer
Position Summary
Supports the Precast Concrete Manager / Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the onsite interface with the precast subcontractor to help ensure a successful precast concrete program, which is vitally critical to the project.
Position will require frequent interface with the offsite Precast Concrete Manager.
- Works directly with our customer(s) and our senior management on matters relating to project engineering progress, quality, scope, and technical / permitting issues.
- Establishes and maintains access to technical experts in the advanced technologies pertinent to the project, and sets up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the engineering effort.
- Champions the creation of a work environment, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction on the project.
Responsibilities
Serves as the onsite engineering point-of-contact (POC) with the precast subcontractor. Responsibilities include day-to-day interface with the precast subcontractor, review of technical drawings, working with Field Engineering to resolve technical issues, and performing field observations to confirm installation is in conformance with the design and quality standards.
Assists in processing Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Documents (FCDs), and Nonconformance Reports (NCRs).
- Assists in reviewing and providing technical approval for scope change proposals (as applicable) from the precast subcontractor.
- Reports out on any precast quality issues and corrective actions to the management team and customer in various forums including Quality Summits, etc.
- In additional to being the onsite precast POC, provides supplemental support to the resident Assistant Project Engineer Civil / Structural for addressing general field civil / structural items which may be beyond precast scope.
- Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers and field supervision.
- Interfaces with the customer engineering leads to establish requirements, communicate progress, understand, and resolve customer concerns.
- In both the precast concrete and general civil / structural support roles, reviews and approves key engineering deliverables for the project including CAD models, drawings, specifications and supporting calculations.

Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution and at least 5 years of Engineering experience (experience does not need to all be related to precast concrete).
Additional Qualifications
- Experienced in the design of supporting systems, equipment layout and optimization for modular design considerations.
- Knowledge of codes and standards applicable to building design.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
- Desire to increase and gain invaluable knowledge with precast design and execution.
- Willing to take an onsite assignment in New Albany, Ohio.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional license or registration in an engineering discipline.
- Previous Bechtel experience.
