Job Description

The Damage Claims Manager plays a vital role, between various departments and business entities. They are responsible for ensuring the accurate reporting of all accidents and incidents both internally, with the applicable reporting agency and with the utilities in a timely manner. This role ensures that every claim — from excavation-related damage to third-party liability — is handled efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.

Position Responsibilities :

Communicating appropriately and effectively with damage investigators, the utility, and the public / utility customers; receive and give information accurately, read fine print and numerals.

Ensure the accuracy and completeness of damage claim documentation

Interface with insurance adjusters to provide regular updates on assessment progress

Manage claim turn-around-times

Interface with managers to collect, interpret, and explain damage assessments for utility locates

Complete timely internal / external progress reports

Maintain a comprehensive database of claims; analyze trends, root causes, and cost impacts to inform risk reduction initiatives.

Partner with safety and operations teams to develop training and best practices that reduce damage incidents.

Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local damage prevention laws, One Call regulations, and client-specific contract requirements.

All other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

  • Schedule will be Monday-Friday, may be required to work occasional weekends
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 5+ years in claims management, preferably in underground locating, utilities, construction, or damage prevention
  • Strong understanding of 811 ticketing systems, utility maps, and underground infrastructure
  • Exceptional analytical and investigative ability
  • Proficient in claims management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and documentation skills
  • Familiarity with NULCA standards, state dig laws, and damage prevention best practices
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
  • Effective communicator with personnel
