Under the direction of the GAR Curator, the GAR Education Specialist will manage the museum’s educational programs and camps.
The Education Specialist will develop and prepare age-appropriate programs to present to visitors onsite and in schools.
This position will also focus on growing the social media presence of the museum and promote events.
- The duties of this position will include but are not limited to : Conduct research to develop educational programming about Aurora and the United States military;
- Plan, develop, and lead age-appropriate educational programs and camps for visitors onsite and in schools; Work with visiting schools to ensure the logistics and delivery of programming;
- Assist in the continuing improvement of existing programs; Promote the museum and events to the public utilizing social media, printed materials, and other methods;
Assist with the daily operations and upkeep of the museum; Other duties as assigned.
This position requires an associate’s degree; bachelor’s degree in American History, Museum Studies, or an education related field is preferred.
This position also requires at least one (1) year experience working in a museum or similar role. Must possess a valid IL driver’s license, the ability to travel to local schools, and the ability to obtain a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position; approximately 18 - 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible and may include evenings and / or weekends.
Starting hourly wage is $20.47 / hr.
