The cook assists the chef in preparing food, maintaining a clean and safe cooking environment for all staff members and takes on culinary tasks as they arise.
The job requires physical endurance as well as mental determination and involves working in stressful conditions for most of the time.
The schedule requires working in shifts, during holidays, nights and early mornings.
- Measures ingredients and prepares them in accordance to chef's specifications.
- Washes and peels ingredients in order for them to be used in different meals.
- Cuts and portions different types of meat according to specifications.
- Prepares different types of food from the menu, carefully following the recipes.
- Makes stock soups to be used during cooking process.
- Portions the food and prepares the dishes for plating.
- Places food trays under food warmers, so that the food arrives in ideal condition at the table for highly discriminating consumer.
- Distributes the plates to be served to the waiting staff.
- Accepts or rejects ingredients from food suppliers, based on their appearance and quality.
Qualifications :
- Culinary Degree / Certificate / Diploma- Preferred
- Experience andknowledge of kitchen equipment including but not limited to knives, slicer,mixer, stoves, and ovens- Required
- 2 or more years offine dining experience- Preferred
- Stronginterpersonal skills. Able to demonstrate respectful and professionalcommunication with everyone, including individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Organizationalskills-ability to be organized in a changing environment
