The Director of Payroll & Compensation at Pompa Program is a strategic leader responsible for the end-to-end management of payroll, compensation, and total rewards programs for a fast-growing, multi-state workforce. This role ensures the organization attracts, retains, and rewards talent effectively while maintaining full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in payroll and compensation with the ability to design and execute scalable, employee-focused programs that align with business objectives and foster a culture of excellence.
Strategic Leadership & Governance :
- Serve as the strategic leader for all payroll, compensation, and total rewards initiatives, advising executive leadership on program design, policy, and compliance.
- Develop and maintain scalable payroll and compensation strategies that support organizational growth, employee engagement, and market competitiveness.
- Establish and enforce governance and internal controls to ensure accurate and compliant payroll and compensation practices.
- Partner with Finance, HR, and Legal teams to align payroll and compensation policies with business strategy and compliance requirements.
Payroll Management & Operations :
Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for 300+ employees across multiple states, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.Drive continuous improvement of payroll and HRIS systems (Rippling preferred), enhancing efficiency, reporting, and employee experience.Ensure payroll-related onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle processes are seamless and compliant.Lead payroll reconciliations, audits, and reporting for Finance, HR, and Executive Leadership.Compensation & Total Rewards :
Design, implement, and maintain competitive salary structures, incentive programs, and other total rewards initiatives.Analyze market trends, compensation data, and internal equity to inform strategic decisions and ensure competitiveness.Provide executive guidance on salary planning, promotions, equity grants, and bonus programs.Communicate compensation strategy and programs clearly to employees, fostering transparency and trust.Compliance & Risk Management :
Maintain deep expertise in federal, state, and local payroll laws, tax regulations, and employment compliance requirements.Oversee compliance audits, reporting, and documentation to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory adherence.Proactively monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary process or policy updates.Team Leadership & Development :
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing payroll and compensation team, promoting a culture of accountability, excellence, and professional growth.Partner with HR leadership to integrate payroll and compensation strategy into broader talent management initiatives.Qualifications :
10+ years of progressive payroll, compensation, or total rewards experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.Proven track record in multi-state payroll management, complex compensation programs, and executive-level advising.Expertise in payroll and HRIS systems (we currently use Rippling), reporting, and process optimization.Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and compliance.Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills; ability to influence across all levels of the organization.High integrity and discretion in handling confidential employee and organizational information.Experience designing or managing total rewards programs including equity, incentive, and benefits plans.Experience supporting distributed or remote teams.Professional certifications such as CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) preferred.Why Join Us?
