GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Join the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) as an Accounting Supervisor and play a crucial role in shaping the financial backbone of our state's essential infrastructure while leading a committed team to ensure fiscal integrity and operational excellence! The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Principal Accountant, serving as the Accounting Supervisor, to lead and oversee the General Ledger, Revenue / Accounts Receivable, Property, and Inventory functions. This position is responsible for supervising staff, directing daily financial operations, ensuring timely deposits, billing customers and external entities, and accurately tracking WYDOT's property and inventory. By managing these essential financial activities, this role enables Financial Services management to focus on policy development, regulatory compliance, reporting requirements, and ensuring the overall accuracy and completeness of financial data in PeopleSoft and WOLFS. The work performed by this position is critical to WYDOT's ability to maintain financial data integrity, which supports agency personnel in maintaining Wyoming's highway, bridge, and telecommunications infrastructure to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Qualifications
PREFERENCES :
Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory or leadership experience, particularly those with a strong understanding of governmental accounting standards (GASB), fund accounting, and financial reporting.
Preference will be given to candidates with an accounting degree, fiscal audit experience, including preparing workpapers and financial statements for audits, as well as advanced Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables, macros, etc.). Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with PeopleSoft Financials and WOLFS (the State's accounting system).
A proven ability to oversee multiple financial functions, including general ledger, accounts receivable, property, and inventory.
Strong analytical and reconciliation skills, experience developing or improving financial procedures and internal controls.
The ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff, leadership, and external agencies is highly valued.
A collaborative leadership style that promotes accuracy, accountability, and team development is preferred.

Education :
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance)
Experience :
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Accounting Analyst
OR
Education & Experience Substitution :
4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Accounting Analyst
