The Accounting Clerk's job can be divided into two parts. The first and foremost duty is maintaining computerized financial accounts and balancing the numerous county bank accounts. The second is assisting with tax collection, distribution, and file maintenance, and acting as a backup for the Chief Deputy Treasurer and other office personnel.
The regular duties include daily collection, receipting, and deposit of all monies received by all DeKalb County Government offices, including balancing all accounts held by the DeKalb County Treasurer. The Accounting Clerk is also responsible for the transfer of funds between accounts on payroll dates, and when the County pays its monthly claims. The Accounting Clerk maintains the Treasurer's Petty Cash Fund.
In addition, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for the preparation of the DeKalb County Treasurer's monthly cash and investment report for the County Board. The Accounting Clerk prepares and maintains on an on-going basis, the investment report used by the Treasurer.
The Accounting Clerk files reimbursement vouchers for various County departments.
During tax collection season, the Accounting Clerk will be expected to assist with tax collection and posting of receipts that come into the office over the counter, or by mail. The Accounting Clerk will also be expected to generate some correspondence from the Treasurer's office. S / he answers questions regarding taxes from taxpayers, mortgage companies, real estate professionals, banks, and others. The incumbent also performs other duties as assigned.
The Accounting Clerk is expected to be the backup for the Chief Deputy Treasurer in her / his absence. Maintaining a professional atmosphere while promoting interdepartmental cooperation and a high level of service to the taxpayer is also a chief goal of the Accounting Clerk.
This position is a full time, 35-40 hour week, with a starting pay range of $17.92-$19.71.
