Position OverviewThe KU Nanofabrication Core Laboratory of the COBRE Center for Molecular Analysis of Disease Pathways at KU is currently seeking individuals with a degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Physics or a related field who are interested in working in the field of micro- and nanofabrication in a limited term Assistant Researcher Senior position.Job Description Provide technical support to users (60%)
- Provide equipment usage training to cleanroom users
- Provide process training to cleanroom users
- Provide general assistance to cleanroom users
- Write and edit existing SOPs for processes and equipment usage
Fabricate devices for clients (20%)
Coordinate with clients to develop process workflows for device manufactureMaintain communication with clients to keep them informed of progress, or the need to make adjustments to workflows or process parametersSee projects to conclusion in a timely and efficient mannerOversee the basic maintenance of the cleanroom facility (15%)
Assist with housekeeping and regular cleaning of the facilityAssist with light maintenance of cleanroom equipmentCoordinate with KU EHS for hazardous waste disposalCheck and stock consumables, such as gowning materials and process chemicals, used within the facility, as well as conduct inventory reporting and record-keepingMiscellaneous (5%)
Represent the KU Nanofabrication Core Lab in scientific seminars and conferencesLead tours of the facility for student recruiting and prospective clientsParticipate in community outreach by contributing to university newsletters and providing demonstrations to local institutionsRequired Qualifications
B.S. in Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or related field, and three (3) years experience with micro- and nanofabrication processes, including photolithography, thin film deposition, wet chemical etching.One (1) year experience working with metrology equipment, such as an SEM, AFM or profilometerOne (1) year experience providing instruction in scientific proceduresOne (1) year experience writing and editing existing SOPs for processes and equipment usageStrong written communication skills as evidenced by application materialsPreferred Qualifications
M.S. in Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or related field with research experience with micro- and nanofabrication.Experience in working on collaborative projects as evidenced by application materialsExperience with computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD as evidenced by application materialsExperience supervising undergraduate student workers as evidenced by application materialsExperience keeping inventories and ordering supplies as evidenced by application materialsExperience handling hazardous materials and chemicals, such as hydrofluoric acid, and have an understanding of how to determine the correct PPE for safely handling such materials as evidenced by application materialsAdditional Candidate InstructionsIn addition to the online application, the following documents are required to be considered for this position :
