Position Summary
The Accountant supports the organization's financial operations by managing day-to-day accounting tasks and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
This role works closely with the Accounting Manager and Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and will report directly to the CFO.
What You'll Do
- Support the team with billing, accounts receivable, and revenue recognition responsibilities.
- Lead and execute accounting operations including daily cash management, accurate application of receipts, reconciliation of payments and monitoring of aged accounts receivable to reduce outstanding balances.
- Generate invoices based on contract terms, respond to billing inquiries, and ensure accuracy.
- Monitor collections : follow up on outstanding receivables and work with internal teams to resolve payment delays.
- Complete bank account reconciliations and create related journal entries.
- Manage incoming vendor bills : enter into the accounting system, ensure proper approvals, and schedule timely payments.
- Support vendor onboarding and documentation (W-9s, payment info, etc.).
- Maintain clean, organized records of all payables, receivables, and communication history.
- Assist with month-end tasks such as AR / AP aging reviews and reconciliations.
- Identify and escalate discrepancies or irregularities to ensure timely resolution.
What You Bring
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. Verification of education will be requested through transcripts.A minimum of four years of professional accounting experience is required.Experience working in a non-profit or public setting, highly preferredExperience working with fund accounting, including revenue recognition requirements, preferredSolid understanding of general accounting principles and practicesProficient with Excel including SUMIFS, VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH formulas, and Pivot TablesAnalytical mind with strong conceptual and problem-solving skillsCritical thinker with high proficiency in mathProficient with email and MS Office applicationsExperience with MIP Abila Fund Accounting systems software or compatible ERP systemsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a team environmentDetail-oriented, with good organizational skillsSelf-motivated, with high initiative and able to work with minimal supervisionAbility to work in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlinesWhy Join CIS?
