The Hanford Fire Department (HFD) is seeking a Co-op Intern to support business management and administrative activities. Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, the intern will play a key role in facilitating the department's operations and ensuring efficient delivery to the Hanford Site community, including the Department of Energy and partnering contractors. As a full-service fire and emergency services agency, the HFD is dedicated to life safety and customer service in support of the Site's safe and efficient cleanup. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills, capable of adapting to constantly changing priorities and managing multiple tasks concurrently. Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with all levels of staff and management.
Key Responsibilities
*Support business management and administration tasks for the Office of the Fire Chief and Hanford Fire Marshal.
*Schedule and prepare for business meetings, including the development of agendas and PowerPoint presentations.
*Prepare statistical documentation and metrics reporting.
*Create and manage content updates for the department's webpage and SharePoint site.
*Coordinate the facility pre-incident planning process and program.
*Update procedures, guidance documents and working documents.
*Coordinate office moves, equipment ordering, and excessing of unneeded materials.
*Support records management tasks.
*Coordinate monthly updates for the department's electronic safety log items and safety boards.
*Assist with tasks related to performance assurance, special projects, process improvement and business administration.
Basic Qualifications *Pursuing a bachelor's degree in related fields of business management, project management, quality assurance, process improvement, change management or another related field.
*Must have one college term completed at an accredited college or university, must be enrolled as a full-time student, and live within a commutable distance from the Richland work location.
*Must have and maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or above.
*Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
*Assist the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal with business operations and project coordination.
*Participate in special projects focused on performance, process improvement and operational support.
*Compile and report performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a personal identity verification (PIV) credential badge.
Desired Qualifications *Proven ability to engage and establish positive relationships with others.
*Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with team members and preparing documents.
*Interest in learning new applications specific to the work scope. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is preferred.
*Precision in handling data entry and documentation, especially when dealing with critical information such as emergency response procedures and compliance management.
*Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, such as tracking open actions, monthly reporting or documentation related to safety issues.
*Interest in learning all aspects of business management.
*Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
