What You’ll Do and Who You Are

Your training will teach you everything you need to know to succeed on the job, but there are a few character traits you need to bring to the job to be an exemplary caregiver :

You don’t mind getting a little dirty. This can include but is not limited to, assisting clients with activities of daily living, such as providing assistance with personal hygiene, ambulation, eating, and dressing;

light housekeeping; taking clients on outings or to appointments; and running errands.

You don’t have to be a gourmet chef but you can prepare a good meal and work your way around a kitchen.

You are able to perform other assigned activities which are taught by a nurse, for a specific patient, which includes but is not limited to :

  • Assisting with the change of ostomy appliances
  • Reinforcing dressings
  • Assisting with the use of devices that aid in daily living (cane, walker, wheelchair, or lift device)
  • Assisting with prescribed range of motion exercises
  • Assisting with self-administered simple urine tests for sugar acetone or albumin (may not interpret results)
  • Measuring and preparing special diets
  • Measuring intake and output
  • Taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure)
  • Application of an external condom-style catheter
  • Assisting with the application of arm slings or arm / leg splint

Must Haves :

  • High school degree or a GED
  • Current Negative TB Screening less than 3 months old. (May obtain after accepting job offer.)
  • PCA only : Successfully complete the PCA Competency Evaluation that meets State licensing law for home health agencies
  • CNA only : Active certification and no adverse findings on Georgia Nurse Aide Registry
  • Current CPR certificate recommended. (RAH will provide training if needed.)
  • Have a valid driver's license and use of an insured vehicle for work -OR- access to adequate transportation.
  • Pass a fingerprint background check
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English as needed for the job
  • Must have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and the ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
  • Covid-19 vaccination NOT required for employment
