Driver - Part Time Meal Delivery
Job Summary
- Drives a Salvation Army vehicle along scheduled routes to provide transportation services to senior citizens; transports seniors from their residence to various Congregate Meal sites, Senior Centers, or designated shopping sites;
- delivers meals to homebound senior citizens; operates vehicle in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations;
ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and passengers at all times.

Transportation Functions (55%)
Provides transportation for senior adults to and from senior centers and scheduled activities such as weekly trips for shopping, groceries, etc.
Maintains control of passenger activities by prohibiting unsafe behavior.
Secures passengers according to vehicle specs; secures wheelchairs and those passengers in wheelchairs.
Delivers meals to home bound individuals following the Oklahoma County Senior Nutrition Program rules and guidelines.
Drives carefully and observes / complies with all traffic signs and road / weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.
Completes roster packets, accurately recording the units of service provided, and return at the end of the last working day of the week to Metro Transit Authority.
Vehicle Maintenance (40%)
Completes a daily pre-trip inspection of vehicle; driver will check gas, oil, tires, etc.
Responsible for keeping vehicle clean inside and out; washes and cleans vehicle regularly.
Parks vehicle in a safe and clearly marked parking space.
Fuels vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.
Ensures the vehicle meets the scheduled maintenance; reports any problems and / or maintenance needs of the vehicle by submitting a work order request to the Transportation Manager.
Locks vehicle doors when vehicle is not in use.
Other Responsibilities (5%)
Responsible for keeping accurate, complete reports and records while submitting the same to the Transportation Manager; logs all mileage on standard forms;
ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Picks-up and delivers miscellaneous items as needed.
Arrives at destination according to schedule or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.
Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of acceptable driving techniques and practices.
Knowledge of safety precautions associated with transporting passengers.
Ability to drive a passenger vehicle ensuring the safety of passengers and protection of the vehicle.
Ability to read and follow maps.
Ability to gauge time needed to arrive at destination.
Knowledge of the assigned geographical area.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or AND two years’ experience operating an automotive vehicle, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications / Licenses
Valid State Driver's License.
Physical Requirements
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to drive a vehicle in heavy traffic and extended trips.
Ability to spend the night away from home due to extended trips.
Ability to read and follow a map and / or hand-written directions.
Working Conditions
Work involves driving a vehicle where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with long distance trips or heavy traffic.
