Well-established nonprofit based in Long Island City, Queens. This role is 5 days per week in office during the contract period but 2 days from home once perm, and offers an individual with Sage Intacct experience a chance to work on a collaborative team at a mission-driven nonprofit organization.
Job Description
This role will involve :
- Works independently on routine and assigned bookkeeping and accounting tasks, delivering timely, accurate, and complete work in accordance with GAAP for non-profit entities and the organization's mission and values.
- Reconciles all bank accounts monthly, prepares cash adjusting journal entries for discrepancies, and submits them to the Director of Finance for review before posting.
- Ensures all credit card transactions are properly coded with sufficient backup; reviews and reconciles statements, and processes transactions in SAP Concur and Sage Intacct.
- Reviews and imports payroll journals from Paychex into Sage Intacct, ensuring coding aligns with grant and contract funding.
- Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations for month-end close.
- Records electronic deposits from online banking.
- Prepares and sends requests for payment vouchers from government contracts and foundations, posts grant and contract revenue, and manages receivables, including preparing monthly aging reports.
- Maintains the purchasing and invoicing system and works with the Thrift store to track monthly reports, verify sales receipts, and record deposits.
- Assists in the annual Hour Children audit, NYSIF, and other agency audits.
- Works with the Bookkeeper and HR Manager to manage payroll processes, including reporting and employee allocations / deductions.
- Maintains a tracking spreadsheet and reviews payroll pre-tax 401(k) contributions and employer matching; ensures transfer of contributions to the pension fiduciary company in compliance with ERISA regulations.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will have :
- Sage Intacct experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting strongly preferred; Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.
- Minimum three years of accounting experience to include, but not limited to : double-entry accounting (debits, credits), and reconciliations; understands the chart of accounts, trial balance, and balance sheet. Experience in non-profit and / or grant accounting is a plus.
- Skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Teams or Zoom teleconferencing platforms, as well as experience with standard office equipment.
- Be tech savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software implementation, training, and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software (such as SAGE Intacct, FundEz, Kindful, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience in knowledge of accounting and practices for non-profits is desirable.
- Multi-tasker with excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders with all customers, vendors, and internal personnel.
- A successful record in setting priorities; keen analytical, organization, and critical thinking skills, which support and enable sound decision making.
