The Opportunity
Black & Veatch is seeking an experienced EHV (345kV+) Engineering Specialist with 8-10 years of experience to join our Electrical team. The ideal candidate has significant working experience and knowledge of EHV Power Systems including upfront planning, design, testing, and commissioning of EHV substations and transmission lines. In this role, you will have the opportunity to :
- Function as a technical specialist encompassing EHV transmission level voltage classes.
- Make EHV engineering calculation recommendations to influence risk mitigation through project execution plans.
- Communicate EHV engineering calculation capabilities to internal and external clients to support project capture and development.
- Apply advanced engineering techniques to develop, maintain, and update EHV engineering standards.
- Provide technical leadership on department design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes and standards.
- Independently apply knowledge and follow Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks.
- Review and verify accuracy of personal and team work; champion QA / QC standards and continuous improvement.
- Communicate client goals and priorities to project teams and develop strategies to integrate these drivers into project execution.
- Engage with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure alignment and successful project delivery.
- Mentor team members and provide technical direction across disciplines.
- Lead project efforts including schedule, budget, and resource management; coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
- Support proposal development including scope of work, estimates, and schedules.
- Develop clear written communications and facilitate collaboration with team members and clients.
- Work in a team environment and apply knowledge in NERC reliability regions (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, MISO).

Key Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance on design guides, standards, systems, and applicable codes; support continuous improvement and change management.Ensure compliance with B&V quality program; mentor and guide others.Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple projects; perform engineering calculations and manage data for engineering work; manage budget, schedule, and quality requirements; delegate tasks to develop staff.Coordinate with internal / external teams for moderately complex projects.Identify client interests and drivers; communicate these to the project team and support business development.Foster knowledge sharing and mentoring; apply advanced engineering concepts to unique problems.Assist with resource management for engineering teams.Administrative responsibilities may include ensuring policies and processes are implemented, adhearing to corporate programs, approving timesheets and expense reports.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program; minimum of 5 years related work experience.Preferred Qualifications : 8-10 years of experience in EHV engineering planning and design for substations and transmission lines (upfront planning / options, physical design, protection & control design, relaying design, design calculations).Experience performing EHV engineering calculations (e.g., audible noise / corona, electric fields, lightning, insulation coordination, transient analyses, EMF, grounding).Professional Engineer (US PE) license preferred.Work Environment
