GENERAL SUMMARY :
Payroll Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day tasks associated with preparing, processing, and paying a large scale union payroll.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Prepare and process payroll timely and accurately on weekly basis.
- Respond and resolve any inquiries regarding paycheck discrepancies.
- Issue, or reissue replacement checks due to payroll errors, lost time cards, employee terminations, etc.
- Schedule and manage distribution process for weekly paychecks to various job site locations.
- Maintain payroll system for all employee informational changes or updates.
- Assist with employee terminations – works with manpower director to process final paycheck.
- Process Verification of Employment for various agencies, home lenders, banks, and government offices.
- Maintain and handle sensitive / confidential information appropriately.
- Conduct work activities in compliance with all internal requirements and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to all applicable policies, procedures and standards.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING :
1-2 years of payroll experience is preferred.Highschool / GED is a required. Some college level business, finance or accounting courses is a plus.Some knowledge of payroll systems and software is a plus.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES :
Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality required.Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position.Ability to maintain accuracy consistency and quality in a fast paced environmentAbility to work positively and respond promptly to requests, needs and concerns.Ability to prioritize, organized, and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.Recognize problems, identify possible causes, and resolve routine problems.Strong interpersonal skills to maintain professionalism in all aspects of the role.Strong technology skills, including MS Office Suite, and an ability to leverage technology in work processes.Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise.Must be self-motivated and approach tasks with a positive pro-active attitude.WORKING CONDITIONS :
Office work environment with exposure to different noises, dust, temperature and the like.
