The City of Missouri City, committed to delivering exceptional community programs and services, is seeking a Recreation Manager to oversee the operations of one of the City's Recreation Facilities — the Community Center Recreation and Tennis Center — and its associated programs. This role is also responsible for coordinating and managing department-wide services, including City festivals and special events, department marketing initiatives, park rentals and permits, and sports field usage in collaboration with recognized sports associations.
The Recreation Manager reports directly to the Recreation Superintendent Facility and Staff Management
- Manages and supervises personnel responsible for recreation facilities, programs, and events.
- Creates program and event schedules, assign work duties, conduct meetings, maintain timesheets, and evaluate staff performance.
- Hires and oversees contract personnel, and maintain program and event equipment inventories.
- Ensures adherence to City and departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
Program and Budget Oversight
Develops, manages, and monitors budgets for recreation programs, facilities, and special events.Identifies alternative funding sources such as sponsorships, vendors, and donations.Develops new programs and events based on community needs and departmental goals.Evaluates programs through participant and staff feedback, addressing concerns and making recommendations for continuous improvement.Event Coordination
Plans and executes Missouri City festivals and special events, including cultural, holiday, music, art, and food festivals.Handles participant registration, order awards and supplies, recruit volunteers, and coordinate decorations and logistics.Collaborate with other departments to ensure successful events.Facility and Rental Management
Oversees the City's facility rental permitting process, including scheduling, caretaking, cleaning contracts, and processing payments, deposits, and refunds.Addresses complaints and provide exceptional customer service related to facilities and permits.Athletics and Recreation Oversight
Administers the City's athletic policies, including field rentals and coordination with youth sports organizations.Participates in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) and manage leisure classes.Liaison Recreation Services Assistants (RSAs) are also essential.Processes payments for contract instructors and officials.Sponsorships and Partnerships
Manages the department's sponsorship program, including applications, payments, and coordination with city-wide contacts for programs and special events.Administrative Support & Program Promotion
Assists with cash and inventory control, purchasing, monitoring expenditures, and budget recommendations.Prepares and disseminates promotional materials, and participate in City trainings and cross-department workshops.Supports tourism-related programs, events, and tournaments to maximize facility usage and community engagement.Additional Requirements
Flexible schedule, including evenings, nights, weekends, and availability for 24-hour recall during weather-related or emergency events.Performs other related duties as assigned.Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation, Event Management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in recreation management or program / event coordination.Certification : Certified Professional Event Planner (CPEP), Certified, Preferred.
