Role Summary

We’re seeking a highly driven and strategic Senior Lead, Compensation Manager to lead compensation design and analytics as Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies scales. You will be a utility player on the team : your responsibilities will span from compensation program management to compensation business partner to program design and administration for the Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technology organization. You will be client‑facing and bring a consultative mindset to work cross‑functionally to support business needs. You will advise on complex compensation matters across the employee lifecycle with in‑depth analytics to ensure we are providing competitive and equitable compensation, consistent with our compensation philosophy. You will leverage your compensation program design, creativity, innovative thinking and analytic capabilities to evolve our pay programs in addition to designing creative and innovative pay programs. Our goal is to create scalable, sustainable, cost effective and equitable compensation programs that will attract and retain talent.

This role reports directly to the Head of Compensation and is located in our Palo Alto, California office. This is a strategic and hands‑on role responsible for developing strategy, building roadmaps on implementation, administration, communication, compliance, providing thought leadership and driving continuous improvement. This role will have individual contributor responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a knowledgeable and trusted partner to the Rivian and VW Group Technology organization to understand business challenges, develop creative and innovative solutions and influence decision making
  • Partner with People team leadership to develop and implement processes and tools, ensuring ongoing process and product improvement
  • Work with cross‑functional teams and leadership to understand business goals and recommend / implement innovative approaches, policies and global processes
  • Drive focal processes, including compensation planning, pay equity analysis, survey matching, and benchmarking
  • Refine and update global compensation market positioning and compensation ranges (for new and existing positions) to ensure market competitiveness and alignment with our overall compensation strategy
  • Develop effective analytics and metrics to monitor business impact and effectiveness of our compensation programs and practices
  • Develop cost models for global compensation programs and budgets
  • Create and implement a compensation metrics dashboard; utilize metrics to inform behavior and compensation decision outcomes
  • Provide recruiters the visibility, tools, resources and support needed to provide timely and competitive offer packages

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field and 8+ years of progressive compensation experience ideally in a high‑growth, scaling, technology environment
  • Exceptional project management skills and can effectively balance competing priorities and driving key projects from concept to implementation
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills with a commitment to accuracy, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to varying audiences
  • Proactive problem solver, driven to tackle new and interesting issues and build innovative solutions that push the status quo
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with cross‑functional partners
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to explain complex ideas clearly
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in Tableau, SQL and advanced spreadsheet capabilities
  • Experience creating and supporting global compensation programs
  • Advanced proficiency with Workday and HRIS systems
  • Demonstrated capability of current compensation trends and design frameworks across technology companies operating globally
  • Pay Disclosure

    Salary Range / Hourly Rate for Palo Alto, California‑Based Applicants : $191,600 - $239,500 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

    Benefits Summary : Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies provides robust medical / Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full‑time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment.
