The Facilities Management team’s mission is to make The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth a place where the facilities and grounds are aesthetically pleasing, clean, well maintained, energy efficient and appropriate to support the institutional Mission and Vision.
We are dedicated to providing services to the Health Science Center by maintaining an environment that is conducive to learning, teaching, and research.
Position Overview
The Controls Application Specialist is a senior level position Under minimal supervision, perform senior level tasks (primarily complex or advanced) related to maintaining, installing, calibrating, troubleshooting, retrofitting, commissioning and retrocommissioning of instrumentation, building and energy management automation systems.
Responsible for ensuring control systems are operating per design to meet savings, comfort and efficiency requirements. Responsible for training UNTHSC personnel on the direct digital control systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a technical field and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understanding of and success in DDC programming using INET, Tridium, and Open Protocol Controls platforms; keeps abreast of current developments.
Seeks feedback to improve performance; pursues training and development opportunities; strives to continuously build knowledge and skills;
shares expertise with others. Familiar with automated design software. Ability to translate concepts and information into images.
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Skill in identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Ability to develop project plans, communicate changes and progress. Knowledge of principles for providing customer services.
This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to communicate effectively and work successfully as a member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possess over 10 years’ of experience in the operation and maintenance of instrumentation and controls equipment in support of a University Utilities Plant or similar industrial environment.
- Associate degree in a technical field.
- Graduation from an accredited college level program in Industrial Instrumentation or related studies.
- Certification as an Instrument Technician, Control System Technician, or related field.
- Applicants must have experience with HVAC & central plant system controls, BAS networking, equipment safety devices, low voltage wiring, BAS logic programming, and starting up / commissioning control systems.
- Hands-on experience with setting up / troubleshooting controls for mechanical and electrical equipment is required, including programming, wiring and starting VFDs, installing and setting up actuators, and wiring and testing safety devices.
- Typical projects include large central plant renovations with condensing boilers, large pump stations, chillers and refrigerant monitoring systems, office fit out with VAV boxes, air handler retrofits, roof top unit replacement, fan coil units and heat pumps.
