Job description

Payroll Technician

The Payroll Technician supports business operations by processing payroll accurately and on time, resolving payroll issues, and coordinating with the Payroll and People & Culture departments. The payroll technician also assists with accounts payable and maintains compliance with all regulations while safeguarding company assets.

What you'll accomplish includes :

  • Reviewing timecards, pay amounts, and special payments for accuracy using established policies and laws.
  • Investigating and documenting payroll discrepancies
  • Monitoring payroll deductions and adjustments, including garnishments, union dues, deferred compensation, and voluntary insurance costs.
  • Responding to payroll and timekeeping inquiries; providing training as needed.
  • Creating and posting journal entries for various accounting functions, including payroll.
  • Processing accounts payable, payment requests, and expense reports.
  • Preparing and submitting government reporting, including taxes and retirement payments; ensuring compliance with changes.
  • Generating routine and ad hoc reports for management.
  • Documenting payroll procedures and system changes. Maintaining compliance with all contracts and policies.
  • Pursuing ongoing training for payroll system / process improvement. Researching industry best practices.
  • Handling sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
  • Performing other duties and projects as assigned.

What we're looking for includes :

  • Associate's degree or equivalent, or three years of progressive payroll experience, including two years' experience with complex payroll systems.
  • At least one year of accounts payable experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of computerized time / attendance and payroll systems; proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong mathematical skills (discounts, interest, commissions, etc.) and analytical abilities.
  • Effective communicator across diverse groups; able to interpret written, oral, and diagram instructions.
