POSITION SUMMARY
Implements medical policies and procedures for Outpatient Nursing, while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the clients utilizing these programs, including residential services.
Staff will perform a variety of clinical tasks to assist physicians and other health providers in delivering safe and effective medical care.
The staff will be assigned a primary office location and will float to provide nursing services and coverage for the community mental health center (CMHC) outpatient medical offices (Valpo, Portage, and Knox) if needed.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Interacts with health care professionals and provides necessary care.
Reviews client medication and updates medication list in electronic health record (EHR), to include all medications taken by the client.
Performs in office testing such as blood pressure, height, weight, blood sugar, urine drug screen, etc as ordered by provider.
Answer and triage telephone calls and callbacks as instructed by provider.
Order, organize, and manage medication samples and patient assistance plans for medications.
Review lab results and communicate to provider.
Complete prior authorization forms for medication.
Maintains clinical records and logs for clinical area.
Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory of medical, office, and laboratory supplies for the clinical area.
Requests medical records, via completed ROI, from other health care providers and / or directs client to medical records department, for assistance.
Assesses and develops treatment plans with the client’s treatment team as related to medical needs, and medication as needed .
Reviews and documents client response to medication and health status and consults with provider to coordinate care as needed.
Administers medications, including long-acting injections.
Conducts client education programs according to needs identified, including health and wellness education .
Participates in staff meetings and other meetings as requested or assigned.
Completes electronic medical record documentation as required.
Administers seasonal flu vaccinations, TB tests, and assists with other testing (ie : rapid covid antigen testing) to staff of all departments, as assigned and documents accordingly.
Other duties may be assigned.
Trains and continuously evaluates staff on medication policies and procedures.
Reviews and documents as needed the physical and mental condition of clients.
Coordinates the staff development programs, maintains records of in-service programs and staff participation and generates periodic reports.
Conducts client education (in groups or individually) on health, wellness, medications, etc.
Coordinates medication reviews and staffing’s with agency providers.
Conducts record searches as requested by the treatment team or provider to obtain a history of medications and responses.
Interacts with providers, managed care, and pharmacy to assist patients with obtaining medication.
COMPETENCIES
The staff member must demonstrate knowledge of :
All medical policies and procedures specifically related to the various adult and children’s services provided in a community mental health facility.
Safety regulations for the services of a community mental health facility.
Crisis and emergency protocols as they apply to the various types of services provided by the organization.
Pharmacology, medication administration techniques, and medication effects.
Basic first aid, infection control principles, and public health requirements
The staff member must demonstrate skills in :
Signs and symptoms of psychiatric disorders
Interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and organization.
Handling crises and medical emergencies.
Interfacing and networking with outside contacts.
Presenting information and responding to questions from individuals and groups of clients, customers, co-workers, and the general public.
Typing and basic computer usage.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :
Certified or Registered Medical Assistant required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mental health preferred.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION :
Certified or Registered Medical Assistant Certification.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :
This position will require the ability to fill in at other locations with proper notification and notice (i.e to cover someones approved leave or vacation).
While this is not designed to be a large aspect of the job, it may potentially require some travel to our other Porter-Starke / Marram locations.
