Assistant Director of Nursing - Hospital
Location : Owensboro, KY
The Assistant Director of Nursing supports the clinical leadership and day-to-day operations of nursing services at RiverValley Behavioral Health Hospital. This role ensures quality care delivery, assists with staffing and training, maintains regulatory compliance, and fosters a culture of excellence, safety, and collaboration. The Assistant Director will provide direct clinical coverage as needed and support staff development through active supervision and mentorship.
Essential Functions :
- Assist with managing nursing department operations and clinical workflow.
- Ensure compliance with nursing standards, hospital policies, and applicable regulations (CMS, OIG, etc.).
- Serve as a clinical role model, supporting professional practice and ethical care delivery.
- Participate in interdepartmental and treatment team meetings to enhance patient care coordination.
Staffing and Supervision :
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new nursing staff.Monitor staffing levels and scheduling to ensure adequate coverage.Support performance evaluations and coaching of nursing staff.Coordinate monthly nursing meetings with Director of Nursing.Quality and Compliance :
Monitor and improve quality of care through audits, reports, and infection control rounds.Respond to patient concerns and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.Assist in department budget planning and expense monitoring.Program and Policy Development :
Contribute to the development and implementation of nursing policies, procedures, and treatment protocols.Support care planning by ensuring nursing interventions are specific, measurable, and documented.Communicate updates to staff, including PRN employees, regarding patient care plans.Additional Responsibilities :
Supervise nursing staff and assign duties to ensure accurate, timely performance.Coordinate infection control activities and maintain medication room inspections and logs.Represent nursing in professional and community settings as needed.Serve in the on-call rotation and provide direct care coverage when necessary.Perform other duties as assigned by hospital leadership.Qualifications :
Education and Experience : Associate Degree in Nursing and active KY RN license required. Minimum of two (2) years of nursing and supervisory experience required. Preferred : Bachelor's degree in nursing (or in progress within one year) and three (3) years of psychiatric and supervisory nursing experience.Knowledge and Skills : Strong leadership and supervisory skills. Knowledge of nursing management, organizational behavior, and health regulations. Proficient in documentation systems and Microsoft Office tools. Effective communication and critical thinking skills. Ability to mentor staff and support performance growth.Position Type : Full Time
