Software Engineer
Anrok is the leading tax automation platform enabling businesses to expand globally without compliance complexity.
As the digital economy has grown 6x over the last decade, software businesses have gone from not worrying about sales tax to needing to monitor exposure, calculate rates, and file returns across 20+ US states and many countries worldwide. This creates a critical bottleneck for companies that should be able to transact with customers everywhere.
Anrok eliminates this complexity by connecting with billing and payment systems to automate tax monitoring, calculations, and filing end-to-end. Our unified platform handles the ever-changing maze of tax laws at municipal, state, and federal levelsso companies can focus on growth, not compliance.
Our customers include:
- 40% of Forbes Top 50 AI companies
- 20% of Forbes Top 100 Cloud companies
- Top companies like Notion, Anthropic, and Cursor
We're making compliant digital commerce a reality for companies big and small, backed by over $100M from leading investors including Spark Capital, Sequoia, Index, and Khosla Ventures.
We're looking for a Software Engineer to help build the developer productivity function at Anrok. You'll sit within our Infrastructure team and work on the tools, systems, and workflows that make every engineer at Anrok faster, from CI/CD and dev environments to AI coding tools and agent-friendly infrastructure. As an early member of this effort, you'll have significant influence over what developer productivity looks like here, with a particular focus on helping the team take full advantage of AI in how we build software. We use GitHub Actions, Jest, ESLint, Cursor, and Claude Code day-to-day, and our production stack runs on GCP, Pulumi, Postgres, and TypeScript.
In this role, you will:
- Own the tools and environments engineers use to write code: from local dev setup and AI-agent sandboxes to AI coding tools configured with org-specific context and best practices.
- Build a developer tooling ecosystem that other engineers can easily extend and contribute to to enable and encourage contribution from across the organization.
- Improve the code review experience through better tooling, automation, and workflows that increase velocity without sacrificing rigor.
- Increase the speed and reliability of building and deploying code to production: CI/CD pipelines, test infrastructure, feature flags, and deployment workflows.
- Instrument and measure developer experience, using data to identify bottlenecks and prioritize the highest-leverage improvements.
What excites us:
- You have a strong technical background in software engineering, with meaningful work on developer tooling, infrastructure, CI/CD, or platform engineering.
- You're energized by making other engineers more productive: you measure your impact by how much faster and happier the team is, not just by what you ship yourself.
- You have strong opinions on how AI is changing software development and have hands-on experience using AI coding tools in your own workflow.
- You've built internal tools and automation focused on developer productivity, and evolved them as the organization grew and needs changed.
- You're comfortable being in the early stages of a new function: scoping ambiguous problems, making build-vs-buy decisions, and building credibility with engineers and engineering leadership.
- You're experienced in measuring developer productivity and willing to pivot your approach based on what the data shows.
What we offer:
- The equity upside of an early-stage startup with the product-market fit of a later-stage company.
- Daily lunch and snacks for those working out of our office hubs.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance covered 100%.
- One Medical membership covered, flexible sick benefits, and more.
- Annual learning and development stipend for books, online courses, and conferences, as well as a curious team to share your learnings with.
- Home internet reimbursement stipend.
- Wellness reimbursement program.
- Annual team off-sites and in-person opportunities around our growing Anrok hubs.
- Home office setup stipend to ensure you have the equipment you need to thrive at work.
At Anrok, we embrace a dynamic and flexible hybrid work environment based out of our growing office hubs - San Francisco, New York City, and Salt Lake City where we collaborate in-person 3 days per week. For employees located outside of these hub cities, we offer a fully remote setup, U.S only.
