Position Summary
In support of the overall Learning College, the Biology Instructor is responsible for providing a quality learning experience for all the College students.
- The instructor will teach biology courses; provide high quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations;
- perform instructional-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the College;
the Instructor will also demonstrate a commitment to the Learning College concept, assessment, cooperative learning, and student advising.
Responsibilities 1. Develop course outlines and teaching materials based on the state curriculum standards and make changes to the curriculum as needed2.
Facilitate the delivery of biology courses3. Deliver a teaching load that may include a combination of traditional, internet, hybrid, and Career and College Promise classes as well as corresponding labs as needed for the academic year4.
Utilize active learning methods, technology, and a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course5.
Demonstrate a commitment to the Learning College initiative6. Post and maintain office hours for student appointments7. Be supportive of students’ learning goals8.
Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data 9. Maintain prompt communication with supervisor10.
Serve as an academic advisor and assist in the registration process 11. Participate in College committees and / or other college-wide activities as elected or assigned12.
Serve as an ambassador in the community for Isothermal Community College13. Contribute to the division assessment by recording and reporting on work projects and provide rationale and feedback for operations in place14.
Facilitate safe operation of biology lab, including safe maintenance and storage of chemicals and equipment15. Ensure classroom, lab, and storage areas are in compliance with Hazard Communication and Chemical Hygiene plan16.
Perform expectations of a faculty member as stated in the full time faculty job description17. Other duties as assigned Skills and Abilities 1.

Ability to work effectively under pressure and with a minimum of supervision Minimum Qualifications 1. Master’s Degree with 18 graduate hours in teaching discipline from an accredited institution, required Preferred Qualifications 1.
Community College teaching experience, preferred2. Experience teaching online, preferred3. Experience teaching Anatomy and Physiology, preferred4.
Experience with academic advising, preferred5.
