Overview
Kimley-Horn’s Phoenix office is seeking a Power Studies Engineer with 4+ years experience to join their Electrical team.
With a focus on serving clients within the renewable energy sector, the Power Studies Engineer will act as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems.
This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing complex projects from inception to completion, with a focus on power quality, reliability, and system efficiency
- Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create models, and write reports for utility and distributed scale solar projects.
- Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support
- Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with EVS quality standards
- Conduct Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM
- Provide analysis for wire in trenches using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP
- Perform grounding studies using CDEGS or SKM Ground Mat
- PSSE, PSCAD, or PSLF modeling
- Conduct Harmonic and transient studies
- Assist in relay settings for renewable projects
- Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and full set medium voltage electrical drawings for utility and distributed scale solar projects
- Support electrical medium voltage conductor sizing and design, along with electrical collection system and substation one-line diagrams
- Continually gain knowledge of PV system components like modules, racking, inverters, transformers, and balance of systems
Qualifications
- 4+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
- 1+ years' project management experience
- EIT certification or path to move towards certification is preferred
- CYMCAP, AmpCalc, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSSE, PSCAD, or CDEGS experience preferred
- Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies
- General understanding of engineering and renewable energy systems
- Grounding studies basic theory and methodology
- Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology
- Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
- The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
