BASIC FUNCTION :

Collaborates with stakeholders to insure the health and wellbeing of students and staff members while at school by utilizing best practices to plan, implement and evaluate school health issues.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Any combination equivalent to : associate's degree in nursing or closely related field and two years’ experience providing public health, nursing, health education or related services.

The employee must have strong office, computer and oral and written communication skills. Incumbents must possess knowledge of the technical aspects, methods, processes, principles, practices, procedures and terminology used in assigned field.

Incumbents must possess a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the State, CPR certification and a valid Indiana driver's license.

Must successfully complete drug screening requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

1. Provide knowledgeable assessment and skilled direct nursing care to students and staff with a variety of acute and chronic health issues that comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.

2. Collaborate with key stakeholders to plan, educate, communicate and evaluate a system to administer emergency and chronic health care needs of students.

This includes the practice and oversight of the administration of medication and other nursing tasks.

3. Maintain a safe school environment by following best practices for public health matters set forth by local and state Health Departments and the Center for Disease Control.

4. Provide excellent customer services to all stakeholders including maintaining regular scheduled clinic visits, communicating changes in scheduling to key stakeholders when necessary and being available to schools during hours of operation in person or per issued cell phone.

5. Maintain accurate electronic immunization records for students that reflect compliance with state mandates for schools and meet district goals.

6. Implement mandated health screenings and provide follow up services to assist families with management of deficits identified.

7. Maintain accurate and complete documentation of student and staff encounters including individualized care plans, nurse’s log, medication administration, accident reporting, workman’s compensation reporting and other district documentation.

8. Identify, implement and monitor health related programming specific to the health needs of the schools including, but not limited to : dental sealant program, FluMist For Students program, administration of staff flu shots, health fairs and wellness programming for employees and students.

9. Provide timely monthly and other reporting deemed necessary by the Health and Wellness Director.

10.Participates in professional learning and development as directed by the Health and Wellness Director.

12. Participates and collaborates with staff to advocate for health needs during school planning including but not limited to IEP and 504 teams.

13. Educates, trains and monitors key school personnel to develop necessary knowledge and skills related to health services.

14. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building / unit.

While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking at will. The incumbent will be required to lift, carry and / or push students weighing more than 50 pounds in wheelchairs as assigned.
