Summer Day Camp Head of Arts

Asphalt Green is a non-profit sports and fitness center with two locations Upper East Side and Battery Park City. We run a summer day camp at our UES (600) and BPC (225) locations for children ages 4-13. The Head of Arts is a critical player ensuring that each of our specialist-led creative disciplines meets the highest of standards. The selected candidate will function as the Lead Art Instructor and manage all art programs and specialists to confirm that each activity is planned meticulously and delivered in an engaging and fun way. The Head of Arts will collaborate with the Program Director and On-Site Operations Manager to produce memorable special events and theme days. Camp runs from 7 : 50 am-4 : 45 pm daily from June 27 - August 15 (no camp on July 4) The Head of Arts requires participation in regularly scheduled monthly meetings before camp, program planning meetings, and staff orientations with dates to be announced. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to : Develop Art curriculum for the summer Finalize each curriculum with instructors to guarantee quality of content, execution, outcomes, and engagement Manage and mentor all non-sports activity specialists and program partners including but not limited to : Yoga, Dance, Theater, Science / Gardening, Woodworking, Red Carpet Kids, YouthInkwell, Music & Movement, Circus Arts (BPC), Arts and Crafts, Cooking, and puppetry Lead age-appropriate art classes for campers and role model exemplary teaching styles Problem solve personnel and logistical issues Communicate with the camp leadership team reguarding any issues Monitor equipment and supply usage regularly to ensure activity readiness and coordinate with the Program Director to order supplies Evaluate performance of specialists and program partners and provide feedback throughout summer Provide weekly reports regarding curriculum outcomes to Division Leaders to facilitate ongoing parent communications Work with the program team to execute and support all campus events Qualifications : Candidates must present a work portfolio at the interview and have a strong background in art education. Experience working with and inspiring groups of kids is critical as is an enthusiastic and engaging style. A collaborative attitude is desired, and flexibility is a must. Creativity is essential, and a solution-orientation is a necessity.
