We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager with specialized expertise in underground wet utility and pipeline construction projects . The ideal candidate will develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety programs to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. This role requires a proactive leader who can foster a culture of safety and manage the unique challenges of underground construction environments.
Key Responsibilities :
Safety Program Development & Implementation :
Design and implement safety policies and procedures tailored to underground wet utility and pipeline construction.
Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and site-specific safety plans for all projects.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
Training & Education :
Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors, including excavation safety, confined space entry, and trenching best practices.
Provide ongoing education on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment operation, and emergency response protocols.
Inspections & Audits :
Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and enforce corrective actions.
Lead internal safety audits and ensure follow-through on identified issues.
Monitor and document compliance with all safety policies, reporting findings to senior management.
Incident Management & Reporting :
Investigate accidents, near misses, and other incidents, determining root causes and implementing corrective measures.
Maintain detailed records of incidents and generate reports for management and regulatory agencies.
Collaboration & Leadership :
Work closely with project managers, field supervisors, and crews to integrate safety into daily operations.
Promote a safety-first mindset across all levels of the organization, leading by example.
Partner with clients and regulatory agencies during site visits and inspections.
Risk Assessment & Prevention :
Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with underground work, including excavation hazards, utility strikes, and equipment use.
Evaluate subcontractors’ safety performance and enforce adherence to company standards.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in construction safety management, with a focus on underground wet utility and pipeline projects.
Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards, trenching and shoring regulations, and confined space entry requirements.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to train and influence diverse teams.
Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications :
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar certification.
Experience with pipeline-specific safety standards such as API and PHMSA regulations.
