Position Title: Clinical Manager – Outpatient

Department: Clinical
Reports To: Facility CEO, Executive Director, or Regional Director
Supervises: Therapists, Counselors, and Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs)
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Clinical Manager oversees all aspects of clinical programming, ensuring the delivery of high-quality behavioral health services. This role involves supervising clinical staff, managing patient care, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Clinical Manager works closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment programs that align with best practices in addiction recovery.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Full supervisory licensure (LPC-S, LPC-MHSP, NCC, ACS, LCSW) required upon hire.

  • CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

  • Three years of experience managing clinical programs preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Oversight and Clinical Leadership

  • Provide leadership and supervision to therapists, counselors, and BHTs, ensuring clinical excellence and adherence to treatment protocols.

  • Develop and implement clinical programming, ensuring alignment with state and federal regulations, industry standards, and organizational goals.

  • Oversee admissions, discharges, and extensions of treatment, ensuring decisions align with patient needs and clinical best practices.

  • Ensure all treatment schedules, staff schedules, and group therapy offerings are maintained and delivered effectively.

  • Conduct staff meetings, case reviews, and clinical supervision to support professional development and ensure high standards of patient care.

  • Carry a caseload based on census.

Staff Supervision and Development

  • Provide direct clinical supervision to therapists and counselors working toward licensure.

  • Ensure ongoing training and professional development opportunities for clinical staff, enhancing knowledge in addiction treatment and evidence-based practices.

  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback, coaching, and corrective actions as necessary.

Compliance and Quality Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state and federal regulations, and accreditation requirements such as The Joint Commission (TJC).

  • Conduct regular audits of patient records, documentation, and treatment plans to maintain quality and compliance.

  • Participate in utilization review meetings, representing patient needs in both clinical and financial considerations.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve clinical operations and enhance patient outcomes.

Patient Care and Advocacy

  • Mediate patient and family concerns regarding treatment delivery, ensuring a patient-centered approach.

  • Collaborate with medical staff, case management, and social services to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.

  • Stay current with emerging trends in addiction treatment and integrate new research into clinical programming.

Core Competencies

  • Strong clinical leadership and ability to oversee a multidisciplinary team.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in managing patient care and clinical staff.

  • Effective communication and conflict-resolution skills to address patient, staff, and regulatory concerns.

  • Strong documentation and organizational skills to ensure compliance with treatment and legal standards.

  • Ability to develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical programming.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods while overseeing clinical operations.

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally for supplies or patient care materials.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment that may involve exposure to emotionally charged situations.
