A Taste of What You'll Do

As a Product Development professional within Cal Color, you’ll play a critical role in advancing innovative food and beverage color solutions that meet evolving customer and market needs. This role blends hands-on laboratory work with cross-functional collaboration, allowing you to contribute to the planning, execution, and commercialization of new products and experimental blends. You’ll work closely with sales, marketing, research, and operations partners to translate technical insight into meaningful product improvements and customer value.

In this role, you’ll stay current with scientific and industry advancements, applying new ideas to enhance processes, products, and analytical methods. You’ll generate and interpret technical data that supports product features and benefits, while continuously developing your technical expertise and problem-solving capabilities. Your work will directly support customers and strategic partners through research assistance, technical guidance, and effective communication.

You’ll also contribute to a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment, conducting experiments using a range of analytical and pilot-scale equipment. Collaboration is key, as you’ll participate in interdepartmental planning, mentor less experienced team members, and actively support continuous improvement initiatives. What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Enology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing, or Food Science, plus 3 years laboratory food and beverage research experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Masters’s degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Enology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing, or Food Science, plus 1 years laboratory food and beverage research experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility
  • May be required to travel to the Modesto location 1-2x per month.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

How You'll Stand Out

  • Master’s degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Enology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing, or Food Science plus 2 years laboratory food and beverage research experience. Or Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Enology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing or Food Science plus 4 years laboratory food and beverage research experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience using advanced laboratory instrumentation including HPLC, UV-Vis, FT-IR, and GC.
  • Experience in analytical method development and implementation.
  • Skilled in reading, analyzing, and interpreting, and applying information in common scientific and technical journals.
  • Skilled in responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Skilled in writing reports and effectively presenting information to top management.
  • Skilled in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing solid conclusions, and defining next steps..
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS PowerPoint at an intermediate level
  • Experience working effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience interacting with all levels and functions within the company.
