Job description

Job Description and Duties

For questions related to the duties of the position, please contact Forest Practice Administrative Program Manager Shawn Headley by email at The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) under its Forest Practice program regulates timber production of non-Federal industrial and nonindustrial timberlands in California. The Forest Practice Information Systems Manager is responsible for overall Forest Practice Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program direction and management of a staff of analysts and specialists, who manage spatial data representing commercial timber harvesting in California. The position oversees the development of web services, maps & analytics, and applications to support data access and distribution, decision support, monitoring, and ecological performance. CAL FIRE has an emergent Enterprise GIS, and the Forest Practice Information Systems Manager plays a significant role in coordinating with other programs within CAL FIRE and defining GIS policy in the department. The Forest Practice Information Systems Manager will take on development of web-based systems, enterprise application integration, and promote the use of emergent technologies.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) completion of educational courses as specified in the Class Specification (link available in the Minimum Requirements section).

Incumbents must possess 12 semester or 18 quarter units course work in any combination of a data driven research-related field, including at least one course in statistical methods. Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree. Work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis by applicants who have the required units mentioned above.
