JOB DESCRIPTION:
KIPP Texas is currently seeking a smart, motivated and experienced data analyst to bring strong problem-solving and analytical skills to a leading charter management organization. KIPP Texas is committed to using data to drive academic, financial, instructional, operational and talent improvement and decision-making. The Data Analyst is critical to KIPP Texas achieving this work. This individual must be as much a people person as a numbers person - collaboration and building strong cross-functional partnerships are necessary to be successful in this role. Note: The team’s existing BI tool is Tableau and we will be transitioning to Power BI by January 2027. This position reports to the Senior Director, Analytics, Research & Evaluation and follows a hybrid schedule (coming to our SSP office in Houston 3 days a week; and work from home 2 days a week). This role is expected to travel to other regions and/or sites 5%-10% of the year.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Data Analysis & Visualization
Design, develop, and maintain scalable data models and interactive dashboards within Microsoft Power BI, utilizing advanced features like Power Query (M) and DAX for transformation and complex calculations.
Support the successful migration of current reporting assets from Tableau to the Power BI platform, including data source verification, report recreation, and establishing data validation protocols.
Work directly with school administration and organizational leadership across all of our regions (Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio) to ensure Power BI tools and processes meet the needs of our end-users.
Ensure data quality and governance by rigorously testing, validating, and performance-tuning Power BI reports and underlying data models for accuracy and optimal load times.
Implement and manage security within the Power BI Service, including configuring Row-Level Security (RLS) and managing user access and deployment across workspaces.
Scope end-user requirements and project plan for advanced interactive and dynamic data visualizations in partnership with organizational stakeholders to meet functional needs.
Contribute to our internal team’s knowledge management systems, documentation practices, and code review process to ensure that we build and maintain infrastructure sustainably.
Data Reporting
Execute complex ad-hoc data requests using SQL and other query languages to provide timely insights.
Develop, and provide training to leadership and key stakeholders on the use, manipulation, and analysis of interactive data visualizations in Power BI.
Support leadership by transforming large, complex, and disparate data sources into clear, actionable analysis and insights that drive strategic priorities.
Data Strategy
Lead assessment reporting to major stakeholders including our Academics Department, Chiefs Team, and School Management Team (Regional Superintendents, Heads of Schools, etc.).
Partner with departments and school staff to plan and prioritize short-term and long-term analytics needs.
Collaborate with the Data Systems Team to refine data warehouse architecture and ETL/ELT processes to ensure data integrity and optimize data ingestion for BI consumption.

Contribute to team growth and data literacy by participating in peer knowledge sharing, supporting internal documentation, and providing ad-hoc training sessions to colleagues.
Proactively engage in professional development to maintain expertise in Microsoft Power BI and related data technologies, including new releases and features.
Support high-priority, cross-functional strategic projects as directed by the Senior Director, Analytics, Research & Evaluation.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Bachelor's degree
At least 2-4 years of analytics experience, with a preference for candidates who have worked in the public sector or similar mission-driven environments.
COMPETENCY AND SKILLS:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including expertise in report design, data modeling (star schema), and development of complex calculated measures using DAX and Power Query (M).
Mastery of SQL for complex querying, data extraction, and deep understanding of relational databases and data warehousing concepts (e.g., normalization, schema design).
Experience working within the Azure Data Ecosystem and an understanding of ETL/ELT processes to move and transform data for analytics.
Proficiency with Tableau is preferred due to the ongoing transition/migration project.
Strong background in statistical analysis required, with proficiency in Python or R
Mastery of Microsoft Excel
Superior quantitative and technical skills
Proven ability to work with large, disparate datasets, ensuring data cleaning, validation, and manipulation are rigorous and efficient.
Strong written and oral communication skills, specifically the ability to translate complex data findings and technical requirements into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
