Status: Exempt, Full-time
Hiring Range: $90,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually, paid biweekly.

For over 25 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester, Minnesota has been making positive impacts in the lives of kids and teens. Today, we’re proud to have 4 amazing Club sites - 1 in a traditional Clubhouse and 3 school-based Clubhouses - all offering out-of-school programs designed to meet unique educational and health needs. We currently serve around 500 children and teens (aka members) and their families (aka caregivers), with an average daily participation of about 300 – and we’re on track to continue growing!

The Director of Operations will be the executive responsible for bringing Club’s programs and initiatives to life. That means leading safe and impactful programs, providing strong operational and human resources management, connecting with the community, developing staff, and keeping a close eye on financials.

Responsibilities

Program and Operational Leadership

  • Oversee program development to create high-impact experiences that meet the diverse needs of our diverse members, while ensuring Clubs are a safe and nurturing setting – for members, caregivers, and staff alike.

  • Champion strategic priorities, focusing on boosting program quality and capacity.

  • Create and maintain operational policies and best practices that support Club’s effectiveness and positive youth development outcomes.

  • Manage operational budgets and oversee financial planning.

  • Be data-driven, using organizational measurement tools to guide decision-making.

People and Culture

  • Supervise Program Leadership Staff, providing direction, mentorship, and support.

  • Closely monitor program and ensure necessary labor controls are in place.

  • Lead professional development efforts for program staff, particularly focusing on efforts that increase program quality and skillsets.

  • Manage basic HR functions, including escalated employee relations matters and benefit support.

  • Be familiar with recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes, and provide leadership and support as needed.

Partnerships and Community

  • Support Site Leaders with escalated member and caregiver needs.

  • Strengthen community partnerships with schools, businesses, and local organizations.

  • Partner with Club’s Resource Development team on grant administration, donor relations, and capital campaigns.

  • Represent Club at public events, fundraising activities, and community outreach programs.

  • Oversee the volunteer engagement strategy, making sure volunteers are seamlessly integrated into Club programming.

  • Stay engaged in state, regional, and national Boys & Girls Clubs initiatives.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) policies.

  • Maintain accurate records related to membership, safety, programming, training, and operational compliance.

  • Be familiar with all organizational insurance requirements.

Qualifications

  • 21+ years or older

  • A four-year degree or equivalent experience

  • 8-10+ years of experience in progressive leadership roles within youth development organizations

  • A knack for leading staff and handling challenging situations with grace

  • Excellent communication skills – both spoken and written.

  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods (we’re active and hands-on!)

  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs (have we mentioned we’re active?)

  • Reliable transportation to Club sites

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Prior leadership experience with Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development organizations.

  • Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Salesforce (yep, we’re a MyClubHub Club), or any applicant tracking systems.

Don’t Hold Back:
If you have a passion for making a real difference – even if you don’t meet every qualification – we still want to hear from you! Research shows that many candidates may not apply if they don’t meet every single requirement, but if this job excites you, please apply! We’re all about balancing experience with potential.

The Perks:
In addition to a competitive salary, staff benefits include 90% Club-paid premiums on the staff-only medical plan level, up to $2k annual HSA contribution by Club, 100% Club-paid life/ADD/STD/LTD insurance plans, up to 5% employer contribution into a 401k retirement plan after 1 year, 9 paid holidays annually, generous PTO, and a free Club membership for any dependents.

  • Applicants in the later stages of the interview process will be required to provide 2 professional references and 1 family member references, and applicants receiving an offer of employment will be required to undergo a criminal background and fingerprinting checks.

  • This job posting provides a snapshot of the primary responsibilities and qualifications for the Director of Operations role. It’s not a complete list, so expect a few other tasks to pop up as we go! But don’t worry – you’ll never be alone. We’ve got a supportive team behind you every step of the way.

  • We will endeavor to make reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified applicants who have disabilities which hinder their ability to complete the application process. Please call our main line at 507.287.2300 to request an accommodation.
