Job description

Covenant House seeks talented individuals who are motivated to help us carry out our mission of ending youth homelessness.

Overview

Since 1972, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 34 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

About the Role

The Major Gifts Officer (internal title: Manager, Key Relationships), plays an integral role in growing our support base in North Texas as Covenant House seeks to expand its service to the Dallas area. You will develop and manage a portfolio of prospects and key individuals who (a) donate personally, (b) participate in our Peer-to-Peer (P2P) programs and/or (c) facilitate giving through their companies and networks. You will also manage a portfolio of prospective and current institutional supporters to effectively deepen their relationship with and support of Covenant House. Employing a moves management approach, you will develop and implement strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward supporters, while collaborating with colleagues as needed to advance cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts across portfolios.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategically design and execute moves management plans to acquire, retain, and upgrade supporters

  • Utilize targeted prospecting and networking strategies to identify, qualify, and cultivate new supporters and/or institutions with the capacity and propensity to give $10,000+

  • Build authentic, long-term relationships that lead to $10,000+ solicitations, participation in Sleep Out and other peer-to-peer initiatives, corporate partnerships, and planned giving opportunities

  • Deliver personalized and impactful stewardship that inspires sustained and increased giving over time

  • Collaborate with colleagues on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts to maximize fundraising outcomes across portfolios

  • Consistently meet or exceed individual portfolio engagement and performance goals

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date portfolio records, document all contacts and interactions in the donor database and leveraging data to assess progress and performance

  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including trainings and seminars, to continuously strengthen fundraising and leadership skills

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Outstanding communication and persuasion skills and the ability to excite anyone about our mission

  • Self-starter who is able to work independently as well as collaborate well with a team

  • Strong work ethic essential to meet the demands of a community that strives for excellence

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the presence and personal style to represent the organization to diverse constituents

  • Available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and overnight as needed

  • Proficient in usage of Microsoft Office Suite

  • A deep passion for our mission that excites and motivates others, along with a genuine commitment to advancing human services and social change

Required Qualifications

  • Two to five years of major giving, nonprofit corporate partnership, or other similar experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications

  • Experience with donor data software

  • Valid US Driver’s License

Travel Requirements

  • This is a remote position based in the Greater Dallas area. You must be able to travel throughout North Texas to meet with prospective and current supporters and colleagues, with local travel required up to 30% of the time.

  • Ability to travel once per year to New York City in October for our annual in-person traditions

Our Community

Our critical mission demands that we have all voices at the table. A team of diverse people, perspectives, and experiences is smarter, stronger, and more effective for our young people. At Covenant House, every team member is valued, respected, heard, and supported, and we welcome honest and courageous self-reflection on any aspects of our work that are based on biased or outdated viewpoints. We deliberately create opportunities for our staff to grow and thrive.
