Duties, Responsibilities & Other
The Project Manager V position is the entry-level role within KCI's Energy Project Management career path, designed for individuals developing their project management expertise. This role involves managing smaller-scale projects with limited subconsultants and scope, serving as a foundational opportunity for learning and growth under the guidance of senior Project Managers. The Project Manager V is a key contributor to project success, responsible for coordinating technical staff, managing subconsultants, and liaising with vendors and suppliers to ensure seamless project execution from initiation through completion. Strong organizational skills and an eagerness to develop in a dynamic team environment are essential for this role.
Key Technical Skills Required :
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills, which includes monitoring project billing and related expenses.
- Ability to effectively manage and lead a team of designers, and field staff ensuring consistent daily communication, collaboration, and operational alignment.
- Oversee and manage all activities including prioritizing and assignment of tasks, tracking progress, and ensuring timely and accurate completion of submittals with short turnaround time.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, and internal project team.
- Working knowledge of power distribution systems, which includes design, permitting, and construction standards.
- Ability to safely lead damage assessment efforts following significant weather events, to include office and field assessment activities.
- Skilled in leading quality control initiatives and streamlining team workflows to ensure project deliverables consistently meet established standards and client expectations.
- Capable of motivating team members and effectively training them in new skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proactively identify risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to minimize project delays and ensure compliance.
- Experience with project management tools and systems (e.g. Maximo, SmartSheets).
- Familiarity with both overhead (OH) and underground (UG) power distribution construction processes.
- Experience coordinating with Departments of Transportation (DOT) and other utilities on major roadway projects, ensuring alignment across multiple stakeholders.
- Familiarity with DOT plan submittals and review processes (30 / 60 / 90 / 100 design stages).
