The individual will review, evaluate, document, and report results. Confidentiality of patients must be preserved while following lab safety and maintenance protocols. Training and supervision of trainees, laboratory assistants, and clerks may be required. Essential functions include employing positive patient identification procedures to ensure the integrity of each specimen for testing. Specimen collection, labeling, handling, preservation, processing, transportation, and storage will be conducted correctly. Adherence to patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations is mandatory. Lab orders must be prioritized according to type and various testing procedures will be performed, including chemistry, coagulation, hematology, and more. Quality control checks are to be performed, documented, and evaluated. The validity and accuracy of test results must be reviewed, acknowledging the interdependency of tests and physiological conditions affecting results. Test results need to be documented and communicated effectively, especially for critical values and results. Contaminated materials must be disposed of according to policy, ensuring a clean work area after each test. Equipment and instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration are required as needed. Inventory and restocking of reagents, calibrators, controls, and supplies are necessary. Participation in the collection and evaluation of performance improvement data is expected. Adverse events should be documented using incident reporting tools. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary. Organizational requirements include compliance with vaccination requirements for associates. Exemptions may apply based on medical or religious grounds. Participation in E-Verify is part of the employment process. Staffing ratios include equal numbers of med techs and phlebotomists for each shift, with weekend coverage required. Self-scheduling is a part of the work structure. The documentation system utilized is Epic EMR.
