QUALIFICATIONS :
Education / Certification :
- Required : Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Required : CPR / First Aid / AED
- Required : Three years successful teaching and coaching experience in the secondary Schools and or collegiate level
- Preferred : Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Preferred : Texas Mid-management or other appropriate Texas certificate
- Preferred : Certified instructional supervisor and appraiser in Texas Teacher Appraisal System
- Preferred : Certified Masters Athletic Administrator (CMAA) or Certified Athletic Administrator (CCA) or Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) Certification CDL and / or Activity Bus certification

Assist each participating student to achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. Provide students an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasure of sports, and the principles of fair play. Supervise, coordinate and evaluate all high school coaches and athletic programs on campus plus feeder middle school programs and coaches. Responsible for adding to the total educational experience through athletics that will contribute to the general welfare and development of each.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS :
Assist in developing and directing a comprehensive program of athletics in the secondary level. Consults with the senior director for athletics and principal in the organization of the program, plans staff meetings and conferences to coordinate the activities of all coaches in the program.Serves in an administrative capacity in supervision and in conflict resolution in the sports assigned.Assumes full responsibility as charged by senior director for athletics and principal, and is subject to direction for developing and directing the designated athletic team programs in the high school and middle school feeder system.Assist in preparing and maintaining athletic policies and procedures.Responsible for administering policies in relation to athletic awards. Submits list of names of athletes recommended for athletic awards.Assists in developing a public relations program designed to keep the community informed of the accomplishments of the athletic program.Communicates with community agencies and news media.Responsible for planning consistent and continuous efforts in maintaining good working relationships with parents, boosters, athletes, teachers and staff.Evaluates campus coaches as to their coaching effectiveness in the sports under their supervision.Supports and complies with board policy, administrative regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures.Ensure coaches submit bus requisitions and travel advance requisitions for all sports, properly completed with accurate information (date, time, destination, number of athletes, account number(s), departure time, etc., and is submitted prior to the season beginning.Ensure that coaches submit to the Office of Athletics meal and travel expense receipts, event roster, and reconciliation reports for all sports within five (5) working days following the competition.Ensure that coaches secure game officials, meet visiting teams and supply their needs, and take care of any other requirements for orderly player performances at all sporting events.Works with the principal to ensure that the athletic booster club activities follow school district and UIL rules in all sports.Responsible for communicating athletic administrative policies, directives, and other pertinent information discussed at the senior director for athletics’ meetings to all coaches at the high school and feeder middle schools.Works with Office of Athletics in assignment of campus personnel to work district and campus activities.Assist in the recruitment, selection, assignment, and evaluation of secondary coaches within their high school staff and feeder schools.Assumes responsibility for in-service training of coaches in all sports involved in the athletic program at the secondary level, including teaching of formations, terminology, basic drills, scouting procedures, and organization of practice schedules in pertinent sports. Will hold all campus coaches, under their supervision, accountable for their behavior, on or off the field.Responsible for implementing and scheduling a daily practice plan for in-season and off-season pertinent sport programs.Has the ability to perform under game conditions. Demonstrates poise, decisiveness and the ability to utilize personnel wisely.Maintains appropriate sideline / court conduct at games with respect to players, officials and other workers.Is dressed appropriately at games and practices.Is responsible for the behavior of athletes and themselves during practice and game situations. Assures that they and players use no physical and / or verbal abuse and / or inappropriate language.Works with the senior director for athletics and principal in the management and accounting for all campus athletic equipment, activity funds and facilities.Coordinates and assigns workout time periods for weight rooms, gymnasiums and outdoor facilities.Assumes responsibility for the general management and safety of athletic fields, dressing rooms, weight and gymnasiums.Prepares and keeps current a detailed inventory of all equipment, fixtures and properties of program.Responsible for verification of each athlete’s eligibility for participation in each sport based on physical and academic requirements.Responsible in working with Athletic Trainers and others for maintaining physical examination and parent permission records, attendance records, grades, insurance records, UIL forms and other similar paperwork which must be in order before students can participate.Assumes responsibility for the well being of all athletes under their supervision and cooperates with the athletic trainer and doctor in treatment of athletic injuries.Assist in the approval of players to be scheduled in the athletic periods and responsible for recommending the transfer of student(s) out of the athletic program.Encourages athletes to participate in the total program and helps students to develop pride and to excel in the sport(s) of their choice.Encourages players to achieve academic success.Works with cheerleaders, band, drill team, and teachers in an effort to boost the school’s athletic program.Responsible for keeping coaches in all sports at the high school and feeder schools abreast of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules and development regulations and ensures that the school complies with these procedures.Is responsible for attending all in-service training programs required by the school district. Is punctual and attentive during in-service training meetings.Ensures all coaches represent the school and district in a professional manner.Articulates the district’s mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicits its support in realizing the mission.Develops marketing strategies to enhance the campus image within the community.Encourages players to participate in every sport in which they have interest and ability.Communicates concerns and / or problems that arise concerning all aspects of athletic program in keeping with the chain of command. Works to provide input for possible solutions and / or improvements to athletic program.Coordinates all summer usage of facilities and rental of athletic facilities.Maintain a good professional relationship with coaches from other schools.Be willing to spend extra time in meeting with principal or senior athletic director to insure proper preparation for coaching assignment. (This may require some weekend or normal vacation-time work)Be responsible for encouraging athletes to perform well in academic areas.To perform well in academic assignment area and realize that coaches are a vital part of the school faculty and have the same responsibility as any other teacher in their assigned academic area.Accept criticism that is designed to bring about positive performance.Is responsible for proper care and maintenance of athletic equipment.Exhibit mature behavior during and after contest regardless of outcome.Participates in parent’s night, banquets, award nights and pep rallies.Responsible for coaches completing code 386 form and forwarding information for final approval from principal.Responsible for making sure students are engaged in learning during the athletic period.Has high expectations of the players and program.Responsible for the growth of the program by continuing to have more athletes.Develops and utilizes a well organized practice schedule that allows maximum teamand individual instruction opportunities.Performs other duties as assigned by the senior director of athletics office and campus principal.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supervises and evaluates the performance of coaches within the campus and middle school feeder system. In conjunction with the district head athletic trainer, evaluates the performance of the campus athletic trainers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.WORKING CONDITIONS :
