As a Pulsed Power Physicist, you will be responsible for electrical design, hardware procurement support, overseeing assembly, testing, and operation of large pulsed power systems that power rare-gas / halide (excimer) lasers; initially for Xcimer prototype systems, and continuing through the design and demonstration of a power-producing IFE reactor. We are looking for physicists and engineers to apply their technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact the future of energy!

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical and magnetic field analysis for pulsed power and high voltage circuit elements and systems, using 2D and 3D electromagnetic finite element analysis (EM FEA) software, such as QuickField, Dassault CST Suite, or other, for static as well as transient responses.
• Perform circuit simulations of transient circuits using lumped element codes such as SPICE and its derivatives and CASTLE (NRL), as well as some transmission line analysis using codes such as BERTHA (NRL) and SCREAMER (SNLA), as necessary.
• Communicate and interact with mechanical, laser, and optical engineering members of the design team.
• Follow the design of the kJ-scale (optical) Phoenix laser system through Preliminary and Final Designs, and support procurement.
• Oversee and assist assembly by a team of interdisciplinary technicians.
• Support shake-down, testing, and operation of pulsed power system(s) in support of laser development.
• Support and perform data acquisition and analysis.
• Continue above roles and responsibilities to participate in subsequent amplifier up-scaling leading to that which is needed for a power-producing IFE reactor.
• Participate in concept studies supporting the use of these lasers in a power-producing IFE reactor and other applications.

Candidates may be considered for other positions at Xcimer Energy, and our actual base salary will be determined on an individual basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. The range is published in accordance with Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and California Equal Pay Act.
