Description
The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Web Developer. The Web Developer contributes to the development, management, maintenance, optimization, and growth of the institution’s web presence. Through content-driven websites, web-based applications, and digital solutions, this position plays both a technical and strategic role in ensuring the Museum provides a top-tier digital experience that not only reflects its reputation as the #1 attraction in New Orleans but also positions it as the go-to resource for WWII content, attracting online audiences from across the globe.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Web Development and Digital Strategy, the Web Developer manages all aspects of building, maintaining, and updating institutional websites with a focus on enhancing the user experience, functionality across devices, information architecture, search engine optimization, and accessibility to meet Museum goals. The ideal candidate thrives in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoys working closely with other Museum colleagues and third-party developers to manage web-based projects from conception to launch.
Requirements
- Front-end and back-end website development as well as ongoing maintenance, security patches, module updates, and testing of the Museum’s various properties (Drupal, WordPress, Symphony).
- Develop custom themes, layouts, and templates.
- Manage the continuing improvement of the Museum’s website functionality and user experience.
- Ensure security, scalability, reliability, and performance of web applications across the tech stack.
- Provide support for the Museum’s robust email communications, including scheduling, strategy, development, database management, distribution, and optimization.
- Collaborate closely with the AVP, museum leadership, IT, creative, and the marketing team to ensure project deadlines and goals are communicated and met and align web development initiatives with overall digital strategy including accessibility, brand and design standards.
- Collaborate with other departments on various initiatives including but not limited to the Museum’s efforts to digitize its collections, event livestreams, as well as multimedia interactive experiences and displays such as the Dog Tag Experience.
- Stay on top of digital trends and best practices to ensure Museum web products remain up to date and have a competitive advantage.
- Undertake other projects as assigned by supervisor.
