Serves as the Pharmacy Technician VISN 16 South Central VA Health Care Network Health Care Systems and will participate in the technical product dispensing and pharmacy operational support functions under the general supervision.

This announcement is being used to fill a variety of positions across 8 Veterans Affairs Medical facilities located in Alexandria, LA, Biloxi, MS, Fayetteville, AR, Houston, TX, Jackson, MS, Little Rock, AR New Orleans, LA, and Shreveport, LA. Pharmacy Technicians function in various areas of the pharmacy, e.g. inpatient pharmacy, outpatient pharmacy, various storage areas, offices and patient care areas, under the supervision of the outpatient or inpatient pharmacy supervisor, depending upon the area of administrative assignment of the incumbent or a registered pharmacist in the absence of a pharmacy supervisor. Pharmacy technicians provide various technical support services within the pharmacy department. This position involves providing services related to inpatients and / or ambulatory patients.

Duties include but not limited to and depend on the grade level :

• Inpatient Pharmacy : Delivering controlled substances to the wards and loading into Omnicell automation, maintaining accurate inventory counts, compounding controlled substance IVs, assisting with bi-weekly controlled substance inventories.
• Outpatient Pharmacy : Responsibilities include reviewing controlled substance prescriptions from the community for accuracy and authenticity, filling the prescription through ScriptPro and Vista, dispensing controlled prescriptions at the window to the Veteran, preparing controlled prescription to be mailed, maintaining accurate inventory counts and assisting with bi-weekly controlled substance inventories.
• Delivers completed orders to the proper areas.
• Assists in receiving, checking, stocking medications and supplies.
• Assists with checking for outdated pharmaceuticals.
• Assists other team members in various job-related duties and responsibilities.
• Maintains cleanliness and neatness of the work area.
• Properly stores all pharmaceuticals, taking special precautions in handling of hazardous or perishable materials.
• Maintains, verifies, stocks, and replaces outdates in assigned areas.
• Monitors ward stock in patient care areas, replays information to Ordering Tech if stock is needed.
• Monitors refrigerator temperature daily in assigned areas.
• Obtains proper medication or material in the proper strength and dosage form; determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measures the medications; affixes proper label; and records required data on order.
• Dispenses medications and supplies after a final check by a pharmacist.
• Correctly packages prescriptions for mailing.
• Assists in receiving, checking, and stocking medications and supplies.
• Prepackages medications in unit of use or unit dose packaging with proper label.
• Identifies and reports failure of automation.

Pay : Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off : 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave : After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy : After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
