Position Summary Description
The Bishop's School seeks a leave replacement math teacher for part of the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year, beginning in April 2025 through the end of the academic year This teacher will be expected to teach four class sections of middle school math, three of which are sixth grade courses and one that is a mix of sixth and seventh graders. The courses are pre-algebra and an introduction to algebra. This assignment includes one section of the "on level" sixth grade course, two sections of the "enriched" version of the sixth grade course, and one section of the "enriched" version of the seventh grade course. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching math at the middle school level. The math department promotes an integrated, student-centered approach to education that utilizes collaborative problem sets to build applied skills in all areas of the curriculum.
In addition to the course load, this position is expected to serve as an advisor to a group of sixth grade students and to participate as a member of the sixth grade team. We seek candidates who are enthusiastic to participate on this grade level team, which facilitates collaboration with other sixth grade teachers and advisors to support students and align curriculum across the grade level.
An Ideal Candidate Will Have :
- A bachelor's degree (B.A.) in mathematics or a related field is required;
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in math is preferred;
- Experience teaching with Phillips Exeter Academy problem sets is desirable;
- Interest in supporting current co-curricular programs and professional learning communities is also highly desirable; Demonstrated commitment and competency in diversity, equity, inclusion and justice;
- Ability to integrate technology into instruction;
- Eagerness to collaborate with other department members in creating meaningful, relevant, learner-centered classroom experiences;
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community;
- Strong work ethic, time management, verbal, written language, and interpersonal skills;
- Irrespective of own religious orientation, ability to support the School's mission and values as a school founded in the Episcopal tradition.
