Job Description :
UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking an intermediate level Systems Database Administrator IV to join Infrastructure and Communication Technologies (ICT), a unit within UFIT.
Infrastructure and Communication Technology (ICT) is a division of UF Information Technology that manages the UF Data Center and delivers hosted server, storage, virtualization, database, email, and related systems, in addition to connecting the University of Florida campuses to the world via high-speed data, video, Wi-Fi, telecommunications, and VoIP services. The Database Platform team is responsible for the architecture, engineering, and administration of UFIT’s core database infrastructure. They design, build, and maintain critical database services, such as PostgreSQL, MysSQL, MSSQL, and etc.
This role is responsible for the intermediate-level administration, maintenance, and design of complex Enterprise Database Systems. You will conduct administration tasks including analysis, testing, and monitoring to ensure optimal performance and reliability. A key part of the job is designing new infrastructure solutions and documenting all systems. You will also be responsible for ensuring high availability and disaster recovery for systems and applications, and supporting hosting clients and application administrators with their database needs. You will work closely with other administrators, assisting with troubleshooting and issue resolution.
Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are :
- System Administration and Maintenance - A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to managing and maintaining complex enterprise database systems. This includes tasks like installation, testing, and monitoring to ensure the overall performance and reliability of the database infrastructure.
- System Design and Development - You'll be responsible for designing and developing new infrastructure solutions. This involves everything from gathering initial requirements and analyzing vendor options to implementing proof-of-concept activities. Your expertise in hardware, software, and networking will be crucial for creating efficient systems.
- Documentation and Training - A core part of this role is creating and maintaining documentation for all systems you work on. You will also train other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of database systems across the team.
- Team Collaboration and Support You will work closely with other administrators, assisting with troubleshooting and issue resolution. This also includes participating in an on-call rotation to provide support as needed. You will also facilitate team meetings to ensure effective project work.

Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience, but does not negate the minimum degree requirement(s).

The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience, and skills :
EXPERIENCE System administration - Linux / Windows environments (VM deployment and Bare-metal)
Database administration - (architecture, installation, configuration, security, upgrades, backup / recovery, monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting) in one or more of these technologies : MS-SQL, MySQL, Postgres, Vector databases Infrastructure Deployments / Configuration - using tools such as Vcenter, Ansible, Chef, Terraform, other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
