- The Mainframe CICS Systems Programmer is responsible for the installation, customization, maintenance, and support of IBM CICS Transaction Server environments on z/OS.
- This role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability of CICS systems while supporting application teams, integrations, and disaster recovery initiatives.
- Plan, prepare, and execute installations, upgrades, and migrations of IBM CICS Transaction Server across multiple versions.
- Customize CICS regions, including system initialization parameters, resource definitions, and startup JCL.
- Apply IBM maintenance such as PTFs and APARs using SMP/E.
- Provide expert-level support for CICS production and development environments.
- Analyze CICS system and transaction dumps, traces, logs, and messages to identify root causes.
- Participate in on-call rotation to support critical CICS systems.
- Manage and maintain CICS security definitions in collaboration with security administrators.
- Monitor CICS performance, resource utilization, and system health using industry-standard tools.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend tuning improvements.
- Collaborate with application teams to optimize CICS application performance.
- Configure and maintain CICS connectivity with DB2, MQ, IMS, VSAM, and external systems.
- Troubleshoot inter-region communication and distributed program link issues.
- Support CICS web services and RESTful API integrations.
- Install, configure, and maintain ISV products that integrate with CICS.
- Develop and maintain JCL, REXX, CLISTs, and scripts for automation and administration.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and runbooks.
- Follow ITIL best practices for change, incident, and problem management.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
- Extensive hands-on experience as a CICS Systems Programmer on z/OS.
- Strong expertise in IBM CICS Transaction Server installation, customization, and maintenance.
- Proficiency with SMP/E for CICS and related products.
- Strong knowledge of CICS architecture, transaction flow, and storage management.
- Experience with CICS resource definition and administration.
- Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, and REXX or CLIST scripting.
- Experience with CICS performance monitoring and tuning tools.
- Ability to analyze system dumps, traces, and logs for problem determination.
- Hands-on experience with CICS connectivity options and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of mainframe security products related to CICS.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with CICS Web Services and RESTful API integration.
- Knowledge of CICS Transaction Gateway administration.
- Experience with CICS and DB2 integration and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with IBM MQ for z/OS in CICS environments.
- Experience with CICS debugging and monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of z/OS system fundamentals.
- Exposure to Agile or DevOps practices in a mainframe environment.
