Intro

Are you ready to explore a world of possibilities, both at work and during your time off? Join our American Airlines family, and you’ll travel the world, grow your expertise and become the best version of you. As you embark on a new journey, you’ll tackle challenges with flexibility and grace, learning new skills and advancing your career while having the time of your life. Feel free to enrich both your personal and work life and hop on board!

Why you'll love this job

  • As one diverse, high-performing team dedicated to technical excellence, you will focus relentlessly on delivering unrivaled digital products that drive a more reliable and profitable airline.
  • Being a Scrum Lead at American Airlines offers you the opportunity to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment where you can make a meaningful difference while continuously growing and learning.

What you'll do

As noted above, this list is intended to reflect the current job but there may be additional essential functions (and certainly non-essential job functions) that are not referenced. Management will modify the job or require other tasks be performed whenever it is deemed appropriate to do so, observing, of course, any legal obligations including any collective bargaining obligations.

  • Optimize the flow of value from generation of ideas to release
  • Coach your team(s) to create high-value items, while eliminating or reducing rework, waste in the process, etc
  • Promote transparency on barriers to change, progress, and remove or seek assistance in addressing impediments and opportunities
  • Enable your team(s) to practice Professional Scrum and other frameworks/techniques that drive agility
  • Cultivate a habit of continuous learning (from prior increments, retrospectives, etc.), continuous experimentation, and continuous improvement to reach a high-performing state
  • Coach your team(s) to understand (the why) and practice new ways of working
  • Serve as internal trainers contributing to the learning and development of one or more team(s)
  • Coach Product Owners/Managers with techniques for establishing empirical product planning and maintaining a healthy Product Backlog
  • Maintain, share, and promote information radiators that enable inspection and adaptation
  • Coach teams to self-organize and facilitate events, as necessary

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in an agile environment
  • Experience coaching agile methodologies to team and stakeholders
  • Skills and knowledge of servant leadership, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment and increasing transparency
  • Proven ability to promote a team environment and collaborate cross-functionally

Preferred Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Experience with driving adoption of Agile methodologies, processes and tools in a cross-functional organization
  • Superior analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous integration/delivery
  • Participation in scaled agile frameworks

Skills, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Scrum Master Certification (CSM, PSM, SSM, or other scrum certification)
  • Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring teams while leveraging Agile methodologies, with strong focus on continuous improvement and developing self-organizing teams
  • Proficiency in Rally, Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar Agile life cycle management tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word
  • Excellent leadership skills, team-focused with high energy and a positive attitude with strong analytical, estimating, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to think strategically and develop tactical methods to achieve objectives and goals
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, customers, and external groups, as well as working in a collaborative environment
  • Broad experience in a variety of computing platforms, such as mainframe, client/server, web, cloud, and Dev-Ops
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments

What you'll get

Feel free to take advantage of all that American Airlines has to offer:

  • Travel Perks: Ready to explore the world? You, your family and your friends can reach 365 destinations on more than 6,800 daily flights across our global network.

  • Additional Benefits: Other great benefits include our Employee Assistance Program, pet insurance and discounts on hotels, cars, cruises and more
