REPORTS TO : Post Processing Design Lead
SUPERVISES : CAD Drafters, CAD / CAM Programmer I and II
PURPOSE : Responsible for creating and optimizing CAD and CAM programs to drive the manufacturing of ship components ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of fabrication processes. Under general guidance, works closely with engineering, production, and Production Control teams to ensure that all ship components meet industry standards and specifications.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
Develop Ship-Constructor nest files using AutoCAD Software.
Responsible for modifying text, mark lines, markings, selecting correct raw stock, part spacing, and maximum plate utilization.
Develop Material Bill of Materials (MBOM) from ship-constructor nest files in Microsoft excel.
Develop profile plot drawings.
Develop Grand Panel Nest Layouts.
Nest profiles using RinasWPP software.
Nest plate parts using SigmaNEST or Columbus software.
Generate Robot Weld program using RinasWeld.
Provides support troubleshooting issues with material discrepancies, shortages, material grades, remnants, green, and surplus.
Identify modeling issues that impact post processing products and communicate these issues to design
Review ship constructor model files to ensure post-processing data is correctly entered into 3-D model.
Check the work of level 1 and 2 programmers or drafters prior to issuance.
Works with Production Management, cross-functional design teams internal and external to the company, including business partner representatives, customer representatives and equipment manufacturers.
Capable of serving as a stand in lead as needed.
Complies with Austal’s employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE :
Required :
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Associated Degree or higher in CAD preferred.
6+ years of AutoCAD and nesting or programming experience using Columbus, SigmaNEST, RinasWPP, RinasWeld or other CAM software
Highly experienced with AutoCAD 2D and 3D.
Highly experienced with Microsoft Excel
Provide training to less experienced programmers on nesting software.
Experience with automated manufacturing equipment and the digital products that feed into them.
Experience working in a shipyard or manufacturing facility
Understands scheduling and forecasting work, ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
Experience interacting with multiple design teams and members of production.
Preferred :
Experience with CNC G Code is a plus
Ship Constructor experience preferred but not required
Ship building experience preferred but not required
Experience writing macros in Microsoft Excel preferred but not required
ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES :
Candidate will be working in our production facility offices, with significant time working with and around production. Must be comfortable working in a construction based environment.
