I have a new opportunity I'd like your help filling. We are looking for a Google Cloud Engineer to support a major technology client in Sacramento working directly on California State Department Google initiatives. This is a contract-to-hire engagement, but hoping we can squeeze out some good GP before converting.
Must-Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent real-world experience
- 10+ years of hands-on cloud-native architecture experience in a pre-sales, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical role
- Deep proficiency with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) core services including Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Run, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and IAM
- Direct experience with Gemini for Government or Gemini for Google Workspace in a production or proof-of-concept environment
- Ability to architect and present complex technical strategies to both engineering teams and executive/agency leadership
- Strong foundation in enterprise infrastructure: on-premise to cloud migrations, virtualization platforms (VMware or equivalent), and container orchestration via Kubernetes and Docker
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (required for government compliance and potential access to sensitive environments)
Nice-to-Haves:
- Prior work with California or other US state and local government agencies on cloud modernization and AI readiness programs
- Experience building the data infrastructure and pipelines needed to support advanced AI/ML workloads at scale, not just model consumption but the architecture underneath it
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and live-demoing generative AI solutions using Gemini, Vertex AI Agent Builder, or similar agentic and autonomous AI frameworks
- Working knowledge of securing AI workloads: LLM deployment security, AI pipeline integrity, zero-trust network architecture, and distributed system hardening
- Demonstrated ability to stay current with fast-moving AI developments and rapidly translate emerging capabilities into client-ready solutions and proof-of-concept work
- Active Google Cloud certifications (Professional Cloud Architect, Professional ML Engineer, or equivalent)
