Your Role on the Team Position Summary : The Skin, Wound & Ostomy Consultant Nurse, functions as the clinical expert, actively involved in clinical practice issues for the UC Irvine Healthcare. Incumbent is responsible for the quality of nursing practice and standards of care provided to patients with wounds and those at risk for pressure ulcer development. Functions as a role model to assist and educate the nursing staff providing the day-to-day care; risk assessments, potential for healing, and wound care product selection. Assists the manager in leading, planning, controlling and evaluating nursing practices and operations as it relates to skin, wounds, and ostomy. Incorporates the psychomotor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient & family, using clinical knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Required Qualifications : All External Candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Current California R.N. license. Must possess CWON, CWOCN or WOCN certifications. Current American Heart Association BLS certification required. Working knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements present in an acute care setting. Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload. Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment. Strong customer service orientation as well as written and oral communication skills. Complete understanding of acuity levels for specific patient populations. Basic computer literacy and proficiency with MS Word and MS Outlook Experience : 2 or more years of acute medical-surgical experience desirable Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Minimum 1 year experience as a wound nurse, with primary responsibility for wound assessment and treatment. Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System Preferred Qualifications : Prior leadership and / or teaching experience preferred. Current American Heart Association ACLS certification preferred Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms 2 or more years of acute medical-surgical experience desirable.
